Orchestra Expressions(tm) provides music educators at all levels with easy-to-use, exciting tools to meet daily classroom challenges and bring new vibrancy and depth to teaching music. The lessons were written based on the National Standards for the Arts in Music -- not retro-fitted to the Standards. The program is music literacy-based and satisfies reading and writing mandates in orchestra class. The pedagogy involves a "four-fingers-down" start for every instrument and separate but simultaneous development of both hands. Each student book features an attractive full-color interior with easy-to-read notes and includes: -A 59-track accompaniment CD that covers Units 1-15 (a second CD covering Units 16-33 is available separately, individually as item 00-EMCO2006CD or in a 25-pack as item 00-EMCO2007CD) -Historical notes on some of the most notable composers of orchestral music -A thorough glossary of musical terms -Scales and warm-up exercises Future reprints may be printed with black and white interiors. A beautifully sequenced approach to the violin! This new method uses traditional music of the Americas as well as original compositions by Mark O'Connor. Perfect for the private studio, as a supplement in the studio, or for violin class in the school, these first two volumes of The O'Connor Violin Method will develop your students' technical and musical skills. The traditional tunes and duets are carefully sequenced for proper pedagogy and supplemental exercises are included for all new skills, including bow development, finger development, theory and ear training/improvisation. Based on the philosophy that America is developing its own style of string playing, melding many traditions, and on Mark's experiences learning the violin, this method breaks boundaries. Mark O'Connor joined forces with well-known string educator and composer, Bob Phillips, to provide a new introduction to the world of violin. The violin books are available with and without an accompaniment CD. A piano accompaniment is also available. There will be correlated pieces for string orchestra.

Dr. Suzuki questioned why all vocalists vocalize every day to improve their voices, but instrumentalists do not do so every day with their instruments. He believes that on any instrument, one needs to practice to make a more beautiful tone. First he talks about playing a beautiful resonant tone with the bow while plucking the string with a finger. When a pizzicato is played, the resonance goes on for a long time. Students should listen to that resonance and play the same kind of clear beautiful sound. He talks about how to make a difference in the tone by using a different bow speed, how to practice to find the resonance point, how to change the weight of the arm on the bow to produce a different kind of tone, and how to change tone color. This book includes all of Dr. Suzuki's basic ideas about tone.
