This is a book about what we consider normal. It details how the very concept of normality emerged in the modern era, and how it has changed over the centuries. By the mid-twentieth century, the expansion of norms across various areas of human endeavour generated a governing normative order in Western societies. Normality was defined as conformity with a narrow model of conventional human behaviour. However, this model has since been displaced by an anti-conformism, in which normality is defined as absolute self-fulfilment, defying older restrictions on our behaviour. Paradoxically, narcissistic individualism and rebellion against conformity have become compulsory. Normal Now explores in detail how this new normative order plays out today in the arenas of politics, health, and sex and sexuality. In all these areas, the uncompromising perfectionism of our norms of self-expression leads to increasingly deep-seated and ubiquitous anger, anxiety and dissatisfaction.

Earlier this year, I went about my business as usual as did most of my fellow Americans. Then 2020 COVID-19 pandemic gripped our country, and the nightmare began. The nightmare was particularly frightening to our senior citizen, elder population. Also targeted were people with autoimmune disease and preexisting conditions. All Americans had our freedoms and liberties taken away in the blink of an eye, our faith was challenged, our schools were closed, and businesses shut down indefinitely. We lost all sense of normalcy. It was mind-boggling.I was inspired to write about the different challenges we were facing, and the idea wouldn't leave me until I began writing. This is my account of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic from my perspective as a senior citizen labeled as the most vulnerable.

Although this book deals with basic set theory (in general, it stops short of areas where model-theoretic methods are used) on a rather advanced level, it does it at an unhurried pace. This enables the author to pay close attention to interesting and important aspects of the topic that might otherwise be skipped over. Written for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students, the book is divided into two parts. The first covers pure set theory, including the basic notions, order and well-foundedness, cardinal numbers, the ordinals, and the axiom of choice and some of its consequences. The second part deals with applications and advanced topics, among them a review of point set topology, the real spaces, Boolean algebras, and infinite combinatorics and large cardinals. A helpful appendix deals with eliminability and conservation theorems, while numerous exercises supply additional information on the subject matter and help students test their grasp of the material. 1979 edition. 20 figures.

The general aim of this book is to provide an elementary exposition of some basic concepts in terms of which both classical and non-dassicallogirs may be studied and appraised. Although quantificational logic is dealt with briefly in the last chapter, the discussion is chiefly concemed with propo gjtional cakuli. Still, the subject, as it stands today, cannot br covered in one book of reasonable length. Rather than to try to include in the volume as much as possible, I have put emphasis on some selected topics. Even these could not be roverrd completely, but for each topic I have attempted to present a detailed and precise t'Xposition of several basic results including some which are non-trivial. The roots of some of the central ideas in the volume go back to J. Luka siewicz's seminar on mathematicallogi.

Olaf Stapledon's 'The Philosophical & Science-Fiction Works of Olaf Stapledon' is a groundbreaking collection that delves into the philosophical and scientific themes present in Stapledon's works. Known for his imaginative exploration of cosmic issues and the future of humanity, Stapledon's writing offers a unique blend of speculative fiction and deeper philosophical reflections. His literary style, characterized by meticulous world-building and profound exploration of moral and ethical dilemmas, places him as a significant figure in both science fiction and philosophical literature of the 20th century. Stapledon's works continue to influence contemporary authors in both genres, making this collection a must-read for fans of thought-provoking fiction. The author's own background in philosophy and interest in speculative science likely influenced his writing, providing readers with a rich and intellectually stimulating reading experience.
