Need to know about Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT): A Novel, Promising Imaging Modality, for examining Coronary arteries having 10-fold higher resolution than IVUS. In cardiology, OCT is an optical analog of for IVUS examination is replaced intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), used to examine the coronary arteries. Ultrasound employed by near-infrared light with a wavelength of about 1,300 nm, which is absorbed by red blood cells, water, lipids, and protein at relatively low levels. Through a rotating glass fiber-optic system, coherent infrared light can be directed and reflected within the tissue to create a detailed tissue image with extraordinarily high resolution, and IVUS-like cross-sectional tomographic images can be obtained. OCT and IVUS differ in several respects. The resolution of OCT (to 10-20 µm) is about 10-fold higher than that of IVUS (to 100-150 µm), but the maximum depth of tissue penetration is lower with OCT (1-2 mm) than with IVUS (4-8 mm). Another important difference is related to the strong attenuation of light by blood, which originates from two sources: absorption by: · haemoglobin and · scattering by red blood cells. To examine coronary arteries, blood must first be removed during an OCT examination to eliminate massive scattering of light by red blood cells. Thus, an attempt has been made to discuss the role of OTC in Cardiology along with several relevant Tables and Illustrations for better understanding! …Dr. H. K. Saboowala. M.B.(Bom) .M.R.S.H.(London

In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the clinical applications of coronary angiography techniques. Coronary MRA can be instrumental in the evaluation of congenital coronary artery anomalies, however, the complexity of advanced MR pulse sequences and strategies may be overwhelming to many. Coronary MR Angiography demystifies the art of coronary MRA by providing a text in plain language with clearly illustrated imaging steps and protocols. Designed to bridge the gap between radiology and cardiology, it is written for physicians and scientists planning to incorporate this technique into their research or practice.

This heavily revised second edition comprehensively reviews the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in cardiovascular practice. It provides detailed guidance on how to properly interpret OCT images and successfully utilise it in daily clinical practice Chapters cover the development and physics associated with OCT, relevant interpretation skills, OCT imaging artifacts, plaque erosion, bioabsorbable stent, the detection of vulnerable plaque, and the use of OCT imaging in unison with other modalities such as phase contrast imaging (PCI). Areas of potential future development are also covered Cardiovascular OCT Imaging enables interventional cardiologists and cardiologists to quickly become both familiar and develop a detailed understanding of this technology to improve patient care and treatment outcome. It is a valuable reference for all practising and trainee medical professionals in cardiology, and in particular those who specialize in interventional cardiology.

"The recent introduction of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has remarkably expanded our knowledge of different retinal, chorioretinal, and optic disc disorders. OCTA is nowadays often introduced as a routine exam in clinical practice, granting the opportunity to non-invasively investigate retinal and choroidal circulation. In this book, many major experts in posterior eye imaging share their experiences and their latest images and ideas about OCTA"--

This book focuses on the coronary bioresorbable scaffold, a new interventional treatment for coronary artery disease, differentiated from a permanent metallic stent. The book provides an overview of the technology including non-clinical studies and clinical evidences in order to help clinicians understand the appropriate application of the technology and the optimal techniques of implantation. It covers the basics of bioresorbable scaffolds; bench test results; preclinical studies; clinical evidences; and tips and tricks of implantation.

This open access book gives a complete and comprehensive introduction to the fields of medical imaging systems, as designed for a broad range of applications. The authors of the book first explain the foundations of system theory and image processing, before highlighting several modalities in a dedicated chapter. The initial focus is on modalities that are closely related to traditional camera systems such as endoscopy and microscopy. This is followed by more complex image formation processes: magnetic resonance imaging, X-ray projection imaging, computed tomography, X-ray phase-contrast imaging, nuclear imaging, ultrasound, and optical coherence tomography.
