"The Rooster Cries..."is a compelling literary work that bespeaks the hope that is unearthed after the torrent of calamity strikes. It challenges the reader to wakeup and be conscious and mindful of self and community. The author illustrates the trine reality of being a Gay Negro Latino male, a third class citizen, raised in the United States, part of the 13th generation of this nation, the famed Generation X (1961-1981) the ignored generation. The artist brings to life, his 40 years of being raised during times of civil unrest (1969), to the times of pandemic paranoia of Aids (1980's), to times of national tragedy (9-11-01), to times of global recession (2009), bringing to bear what thirsting after the American dream means to him. Feroz uses his art of Astrology to further comprehend his jihad of life, helping him navigate through the transgressions of personal loss and broken dreams. Outlining the existential woe felt, when one can't seem to fit into society at large. He's expressed in a fashion of honesty that would do Baldwin, Williams and Huxley proud. Feroz explains his "Audacity of Hope", comically interjecting musical pop culture, to involve the reader in the essence of the times of which we live. In order to fully explain his faith in the American dream in these times both trying and full of history's hope. In this new Aquarian age, of this new millennium, in a time when government and governing is "Black like me". The Native (NYer), casts aside all doubt of the future and waves his cape at the start of a Bull Market. Donning the hat of entrepreneurship, a testament to his faith in the American dream. Telling / Crying of this fabulous future that we must all invest in ... Fabutron. This is more than just a fairy's tale. This is L.I.F.E. [Living In Faith Eternally]. The term 'temporality' often refers to the traditional mode of the way time is: a linear procession of past, present and future. As philosophers will note, this is not always the case. Christine Ross builds on current philosophical and theoretical examinations of time and applies them to the field of contemporary art: films, video installations, sculpture and performance works. Ross first provides an interdisciplinary overview of contemporary studies on time, focusing on findings in philosophy, psychology, sociology, communications, history, postcolonial studies, and ecology. She then illustrates how contemporary artistic practices play around with what we consider linear time. Engaging the work of artists such as Guido van der Werve, Melik Ohanian, Harun Farocki, and Stan Douglas, allows investigation though the art, as opposed to having art taking an ancillary role. The Past is the Present; It's the Future Too forces the reader to understand the complexities of the significance of temporal development in new artistic practices.

"In this edited volume, Polgovsky Ezcurra and her contributors look at the rise in the creation of community-focused art projects, from public cinema, to off-stage dance and theatre, and to the creation of anti-monuments that have redefined what public art is and how people have engaged with it within Mexico City in particular, as well as other regions of Mexico, since the 1980s. With a mixture of in-depth studies and artist dossiers, the manuscript is organized into five main sections: Historical Return, Infra-Political Art, the Infrastructures of Commoning, Forensic Publics, and Grassroots Memorials and Distributed Publics"--

Power and Pilgrimage is an in-depth anthropological study of life at a Bolivian pilgrimage site. It focuses on the experiences of pilgrims and how, in their Marian devotion, they express and learn to live with the various inequalities they experience in everyday life. Issues of poverty and class inequality lead them to approach the Virgin of Urkupina to support them in their quest for economic betterment. Another social inequality that comes to the fore is based on gender: in particular Bolivian women seek Mary's support to deal with violence and oppression in their homes. Finally, ethnic inequalities are discussed by analysing the dance processions in honour of the Virgin, since these reflect contested ethnic identities.

Although only 2 percent of Colombia’s population identifies as indigenous, that figure belies the significance of the country’s indigenous movement. More than a quarter of the Colombian national territory belongs to indigenous groups, and 80 percent of the country’s mineral resources are located in native-owned lands. In this innovative ethnography, Joanne Rappaport draws on research she has conducted in Colombia over the past decade—and particularly on her collaborations with activists—to explore the country’s multifaceted indigenous movement, which, after almost 35 years, continues to press for rights to live as indigenous people in a pluralistic society that recognizes them as citizens. Focusing on the intellectuals involved in the movement, Rappaport traces the development of a distinctly indigenous modernity in Latin America—one that defies common stereotypes of separatism or a romantic return to the past. As she reveals, this emerging form of modernity is characterized by interethnic communication and the reframing of selectively appropriated Western research methodologies within indigenous philosophical frameworks. Intercultural Utopias centers on southwestern Colombia’s Cauca region, a culturally and linguistically heterogeneous area well known for its history of indigenous mobilization and its pluralist approach to ethnic politics. Rappaport interweaves the stories of individuals with an analysis of the history of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca and other indigenous organizations. She presents insights into the movement and the intercultural relationships that characterize it from the varying perspectives of regional indigenous activists, nonindigenous urban intellectuals dedicated to the fight for indigenous rights, anthropologists, local teachers, shamans, and native politicians.

What does an assemblage made out of crumpled newspaper have in common with an empty room in which the lights go on and off every five seconds? This book argues that they are both examples of a 'precarious' art that flourished from the late 1950s to the first decade of the twenty-first century, in light of a growing awareness of the individual's fragile existence in capitalist society. Focusing on comparative case studies drawn from European, North and South American practices, this study maps out a network of similar concerns and practices, while outlining its evolution from the 1960s to the beginning of the twenty-first century. This book will provide students and amateurs of contemporary art and culture with new insights into contemporary art practices and the critical issues that they raise concerning the material status of the art object, the role of the artist in society, and the relation between art and everyday life.
