I have been teaching Practical Shooting for more than a decade. Watching thousands of students fire millions of rounds over the years has taught me quite a lot about shooting. It also taught me how individuals process and obtain an understanding of shooting. I have seen students repeatedly shoot the same patterns over and over again, and I've realized the same drills highlighted the same mistakes. Over time, it has become easy for me to spot these patterns. The difficulty was making the student see and understand what I saw. However, when the student would experience an understanding, they had a breakthrough in their shooting.Over time, I modified drills and created new ones, to highlight the patterns I was seeing so that students would understand what they were doing wrong and comprehend how to fix it. This book is the product of that refinement. It contains a simple set of ideas, techniques, and drills; distilled down to an uncomplicated form. By developing your understanding of the concepts contained in this book, you can achieve your own breakthrough.

Shooting to Live describes methods developed and practiced during an eventful quarter of a century and adopted by numerous police organization in the Far East and elsewhere. It covers everything from the purpose of the pistol, to selection, training, advance methods and more! This book was the first time that fighting with firearms was clearly and explicitly disassociated from classical target/range shooting. The proven techniques displayed have spawned most modern pistol techniques because of their simplicity and effectiveness. It is written as instruction to police forces in the methods of shooting (reflexive/instinctive) and training (realistic/challenging) that the author developed over two decades active service in Shanghai.

The increasingly complex environment of the 21st century demands unprecedented knowledge, skills and abilities for people from all walks of life. One powerful solution that blends the science of learning with the technological advances of computing is Virtual Environments. In the United States alone, the Department of Defense has invested billions of dollars over the past decade to make this field and its developments as effective as possible. This 3-volume work provides, for the first time, comprehensive coverage of the many different domains that must be integrated for Virtual Environments to fully provide effective training and education. The first volume is dedicated to a thorough understanding of learning theory, requirements definition and performance measurement, providing insight into the human-centric specifications the VE must satisfy to succeed. Volume II provides the latest information on VE component technologies, and Volume III offers discussion of an extensive collection of integrated systems presented as VE use-cases, and results of effectiveness evaluation studies. The text includes emerging directions of this evolving technology, from cognitive rehabilitation to the next generation of museum exhibitions. Finally, the handbook offers a glimpse into the future with this fascinating technology. This groundbreaking set will interest students, scholars and researchers in the fields of military science, technology, computer science, business, law enforcement, cognitive psychology, education and health. Topics addressed include guidance and interventions using VE as a teaching tool, what to look for in terms of human-centered systems and components, and current training uses in the Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines. Game-based and long distance training are explained, as are particular challenges such as the emergence of VE sickness. Chapters also highlight the combination of VE and cybernetics, robotics and artificial intelligence.

"This book is more weighted toward the marksmanship side of things. This is because it's important to establish a solid foundation of training in the classic marksmanship positions before you start to worry about tactical application. As described in the last few editions of the American Sniper Association Sniper Utilization Survey police snipers have made successful shots against bad guys from the prone, sitting, kneeling and standing positions. It's hoped that you are reading this because you want to prepare ahead of time to attend a Snipercraft Basic or Advanced Sniper Course, because that's the intended audience of this handbook; however this text will help prepare you for any good police sniper school."--Provided by publisher.

Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training with the Laser Marksmanship Training System

"This research compared the relative impact of two approaches for training Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM). One hundred and eighty four One-Station Unit Training (OSUT) infantry trainees (i.e., the experimental group) trained under a U.S. Army Reserve (USAR)-developed, device-based (i.e., the Beamhit Laser Marksmanship Training System LMTS) approach, and 202 infantry trainees (i.e., the control group) trained under the standard U.S. Army Infantry School BRM program of instruction. Results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group on shot grouping, weapon zeroing, and known-distance firing. No between-group differences were found, however, for record fire qualification scores or for performance during pop-up target engagement practice periods leading up to qualification. The implications of these findings for initial marksmanship training are discussed along with plans for follow-up USAR-sponsored research to assess (a) the impact of LMTS-based training on sustainment performance, and (b) the feasibility of using LMTS-based performance to predict live-fire qualification scores."--Stinet.
