This unique volume attempts to answer one of mankind's oldest puzzles -- why the moon appears to be larger and closer on the horizon than when it is high in the sky. Over the centuries, many viable solutions have been proposed for this psychological phenomenon. The Moon Illusion presents papers by major theorists striving to explain the illusion and providing commentaries on the works of others. Research on the moon illusion has been scattered throughout journals in many disciplines including philosophy, physiology, physics, and psychology. As the first publication to present a comprehensive treatment of the problem, this book is of vital interest to professionals whose major concern is visual perception, experimental psychology, or the neurosciences. Of additional interest to those whose focus is physics or astronomy.

"This brilliant study presents contemporary anthropology at its best. Whether one's goal is understanding the permeability of traditions and modernities or the changing shape of religious imagination and thought in one of the most pivotal countries of the Middle East, this book is an outstanding point of departure."—Dale F. Eickelman, author of The Middle East and Central Asia: An Anthropological Approach, 4th ed. "Dreams That Matter is an insightful and well-crafted study of the practice of dreaming in contemporary Egypt. Mittermaier provides a superb analysis of the imaginative repertoires of Islamic traditions and shows how the dream has remained not only a site of Muslim scholarly interest, but an important part of the way ordinary Muslims encounter and engage with the divine."—Charles Hirschkind, author of Powers of the Secular Modern: Talal Asad and His Interlocutors "Amira Mittermaier has given us the most complete anthropological study of dream culture in the Middle East—perhaps in any culture. It is a sensitive, intellectually challenging, indeed a courageous, investigation of the psychological, ontological, and ethical assumptions that lie behind dreams, visions, and dream-visitations in contemporary Egypt—where the dream is a vibrant site of political, religious, and interpretive contest. Dreams That Matter will rank among the most important contributions to the anthropology of the imagination for years to come."—Vincent Crapanzano, author of The Harkis: The Wound That Never Heals

Guides people through the principles of rewilding, basically tapping into our inner nature as humans, and how to apply them to how we live our lives to foster greater personal health, mindfulness and well-being. Rewilding as an ecological conservation concept is about restoring natural processes and wilderness areas with an emphasis on recreating an area's natural uncultivated state. Beyond Domestication takes it further by looking at how people live and to use rewilding tenets to provide beneficial effects on their lives. The main aim for the book is to help people to connect more closely with nature and themselves. To this end, the book introduces the Seven Practices of Well-Being as a guide to their rewilding journey and looking into how each plays a role in our personal health and well-being as well as our planet's: -Food - How important food and food production are to well-being; discussion on diets and the major kingdoms of food (plant, animal, fungi and bacteria). -Water - A prerequisite for life, this resource influences everything; discussion on drinking water, swimming, and our relationship with bodies of water in nature. -Air - With discussions on airbathing, active breathing as well as how climate and weather affects our mental health. -Sunlight - Explores humanity's origins and dependence on sunlight; discussions on vitamin D, photosynthesis, and living by the movements of sun. -Movement - Looks into our relationship with our body, how we move/walk, what and how we experience the outside world, sensory overload. -Mindfulness - Looks into our relationship with distractions/technology all around us, our ability to self-care and reset; discussion on mindset, productivity, visualization and gratitude. -Sleep - Reiterates the importance of "true rest" and being in touch with our natural circadian rhythm; explores our relationship with light/moonlight. Beyond Domestication seeks to demonstrate the importance of rewilding for the future of well-being, humanity and the sustainability of the planet.

Praise for Gravity Drive: “I started reading Gravity Drive - Key to the Cosmos after dinner, figuring I'd get a couple chapters into it just to see how it started...and couldn't put it down. I read the whole thing straight through. Well done! I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters. I loved the aliens.” Jerry Oltion - Nebula Award winning author of over 15 novels and 150 published stories, including numerous Authorized Star Trek novels. (Note: This is a work of fiction) - Since the invention of rockets, their propulsion systems have gone essentially unchanged. We still depend on blasting some type of propellant out the rear to shoot the rocket forward (Newton’s Third Law - check it out). There’s two main problems with this method: propellant is always in limited supply, and therefore you can’t really go very fast. This is why we use gravitational assist from planets and the Sun, to get us places. It still takes years, and that’s just inside our solar system. What if we could go to our Moon in hours or Mars in a couple days, and even turn around mid-flight if we forgot our toothbrush? This is the story behind the development of the Gravity Drive propulsion system, WAIT Spoiler Alert - and the profound effect it has not just on space exploration but on all of humanity, it’s benefits for Earth’s ecology, and most importantly, it’s role in humanities future in the greater galactic community. The story follows an engineer who has a close encounter and decides he’s far more interested in how the UFO flies, than who might be inside. After designing the first gravity drive propulsion system, he receives confirmation of his design when he meets up with two engineers who have been studying the crashed Alien craft from 1947 Roswell. And yes, you’ll finally hear the true story of that night in 1947 Roswell and why the US government has kept it covered up. The three engineers become fast friends and together with NASA they build the first fully functional gravity drive space craft, and fly off to many adventures among the cosmos with a slightly wacky alien AI (the friendly kind) and meet some very interesting aliens. OK - we’re getting into some real spoiler territory here so you’ve been warned, again: After bringing additional advanced technology back to humanity, courtesy of some friendly aliens, our four heroes start humanity down a path of cleaning up the mess we’ve made of our Earth and it’s inhabitants. So it’s time for a very long nap, and we wake up just in time for the second book. It’s thousands of years later and humans have really worked their butts off to make the Earth a paradise once again, when along comes the Universe to snatch it all away. The only hope for saving life on Earth rests with their new best friend, and previously mentioned artificial intelligence - Jason. Hence the title of the second book. With the Ark fully loaded we head into the third book, where we quickly discover that the Universe doesn’t play fair, and is determined to destroy all life on Earth once and for all. It’s time for humanity to get serious about deep space exploration and find us some new homes out there in the cosmos. The only problem is there just aren’t a lot of no vacancy signs. You’ll love the way the trilogy wraps up, and the important messages not so discreetly hidden in the story. After all, they’re important and I don’t want you to miss them in case you fall asleep a lot while reading. I hope you enjoy these three books as much as I enjoyed writing them, and Thank You for your choice in literature. It shows you have Great Taste.
