Late 1941 Philippine Islands Just before Manila fell to the Japanese, a large bank sent out a crew to bury its gold reserves in the wilds of Lingayen. On the return trip the bank employees were strafed by a single Jap plane. Everyone was killed and with their demise, the gold location was lost. Almost four years later, an American forward observer found a cave that had been opened by an errant artillery shell. Upon entering the cave, he found the gold buried in 1941 .He first considered turning in this treasure, then decided to try and keep it for himself. He first drew a detailed map of the area, then called for one more strike to seal the entrance. This map eventually came into the hands of a millionaire industrialist, Carlyle Thomas, who outfitted a ship to visit the Philippine Islands and bring back the gold. To captain this expedition, he chose Jerry Wilson. ,a young "hell for leather" ex-Navy skipper. Jerry's exploits as he fights a Pacific typhoon, a treacherous band of Huks, not to mention all of the beautiful women in his life (particularly Nikki) make for exciting reading.

A memoir of extraordinary scope, William Lloyd Stearman’s reminiscences will attract those interested in early aviation, World War II in the Pacific, life as a diplomat behind the Iron Curtain, the Vietnam War, and the ins and outs of national security decision-making in the White House. Stearman begins with a description of childhood as the son of aviation pioneer Lloyd Stearman. He then covers his naval combat experiences in the Pacific war and later struggles as one of the Navy’s youngest ship captains. Following graduate school, he moved to the front lines of the Cold War and writes about his life as a diplomat who negotiated with the Soviets, spent nine years in Berlin and Vienna, and was director of psychological operations in Vietnam. His reflections on seventeen years with the National Security Council at the White House are of special interest.

This is an account of the Lord God calling me into the ministry, preparing me, and sending me to the Philippine Islands as a missionary. While I was preparing to go, He told me not to become associated with any other ministry. That meant I would be totally on my own. After that, He told me not to raise any financial support, but to trust Him, and He would supply all of my needs. Because I was not associated with anyone else, I had to go to the Philippines on a tourist visa and could, therefore, not do anything there to support myself or my ministry. Because of these restrictions, I was totally dependent on the Lord for everything. When He showed me that He had sent out the twelve apostles in the same way, I was very encouraged. He [Jesus] commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff""no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts. (Mark 6:8) He sent out the seventy the same way: "After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, saying to them, 'Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one on the road.'" (Luke 10:1a, 4) This book is an account of the first eight years of that assignment and how the Lord God Almighty became my friend and companion as we walked together, talked together, and worked together and of His provision as He and I ministered His Gospel.

The life story of Richard Ramsay Armstrong, RN, 1833 - 1910. 3 years on the Coast of Africa for suppression of the slave trade. Then the Crimea, and 6 months with the Naval Brigade. He survived cholera but was wounded 5 times. Back at home the doctors thought he would die. Instead, he emigrated to NZ, to try farming. It didn't work out, so, he went to be a planter in Fiji. This failed, but he had to survive many hazards: a hurricane wiped him out. Then he was the official at Lord Howe Is. He became the thorn in the side of speculators who got his dismissal on trumped up charges. Back in Australia several schemes failed to make his fortune. He never mentions his family and though he fathered 6 children, he always seems to have been off on some project, giving the impression of a poor family man! This is confirmed by his wife's occasional diary which is included after his work. There are extensive footnotes and a substantial appendix examining some of Armstrong's stories in detail.

From the streets of Amsterdam to remote Pacific islands to the jungles of Ecuador and beyond, each international adventure that emerges is a dramatic episode that could be directed only by the hand of God. Stories from the Philippines bring a challenge to a deeper, tested faith that will change believers' lives and the lives of those they encounter.
