This book is about leadership in organizations. The primary focus is on managerial leadership, as opposed to parliamentary leadership, leadership of social movements, or informal leadership in peer groups. The book presents a broad survey of theory and research on leadership in formal organizations. The topic of leadership effectiveness is of special interest.

Integrated in this book are contributions from leading scientists who have each studied children's adjustment across risks common in contemporary society. Chapters in the first half of the book focus on risks emanating from the family; chapters in the second half focus on risks stemming from the wider community. All contributors have explicitly addressed a common set of core themes, including the criteria they used to judge 'resilience' within particular risk settings, the major factors that predict resilience in these settings; the limits to resilience (vulnerabilities coexisting with manifest success); and directions for interventions. In the concluding chapter, the editor integrates evidence presented through all preceding chapters to distill (a) substantive considerations for future research, and (b) salient directions for interventions and social policies, based on accumulated research knowledge.

In an educational context where school and district performance is of increasing focus, it’s essential for leaders at all levels of the educational system to focus on improving student performance. This volume zeros in on a promising set of strategies and practices for all leaders to motivate, support, and sustain learning in contemporary schools. Learning-Focused Leadership in Action explores what it means for educational leadership to be "learning-focused," what this looks like in practice at both the school and district level, and how such leadership changes can be set in motion. Drawing on extensive case study research in schools and districts that are making progress on learning improvement, this volume explores how leaders at all levels of the educational system can productively seek to improve the quality of learning opportunities and student performance, no matter how challenging the circumstances.

Best Practices for Shared Parishes seeks to assist pastors of culturally diverse parishes in the challenging yet rewarding task of building unity in diversity. Developed from a study of pastors who successfully increased parishioner integration and inclusion in their parishes, the recommendations in this book can help pastors and parish leadership teams respond to challenging ministerial situations and growing demographic changes. This bilingual English and Spanish guide identifies pastoral responses and proven approaches to intercultural competencies in attitudes, knowledge, and skills. This book helps parishes discern pastoral planning strategies and opportunities that can lead to a higher level of stewardship and engagement.
