This most archetypal of symbols can be found all around us: from the folds of coral and the internal structure of the Nautilus shell to the queue settings of Disneyland rides; in the monastic library of Melk in the novel and film In the Name of the Rose and Dorothy's yellow-brick road from The Wizard of Oz, to the hero's journeys undertaken by Neo in the Matrix, Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, and Frodo in The Lord of the Rings. This book is meant to bring the secrets and power of the Laberinto into your professional life. It is divided into three parts. Part I covers Chapters 1-3 and gives you a brief history of the Laberinto, where it comes from, the myths associated with it and how they relate to business today. Part II consists of Chapter 4, which describes how to use the laberintos provided in this book and Chapter 5, which contains 16 laberintos focusing on business topics (including marketing, human resource management, leadership, etc.) plus 1 bonus laberinto on business wisdom. Part III concludes the book with Laberinto templates and a reference listing. So if you are ready, let's begin. (from the Introduction)

Enter a world straight out of Argentine folklore... Following the events of Lobizona, Manu and her friends cross the mystical border into Kerana—a cursed realm in Argentina—searching for allies and a hiding place. As they chase down leads about the Coven—a mythical resistance manada that might not even exist—the Cazadores chase down leads about Manu, setting up traps to capture and arrest her. Just as it seems the Cazadores have Manu and her friends cornered, the Coven answers their call for help. As Manu catches her breath among these non-conforming Septimus, she discovers they need a revolution as much as she does. But is she the right one to lead them? After all, hybrids aren’t just outlawed. They’re feared and reviled. What happens when the Coven learns of Manu’s dual heritage? Will they still protect her? Or will they betray her? And after running this far, for this long—how much farther can Manu go before her feet get tired, and she stops to take a stand?

The exhibition that this catalog records, Untreated Strangeness, features the work of Los Angeles-based photographer and critic George Porcari along with three new Jorge Pardo sculptures and a video loop by Naomi Fisher. Porcari's remarkable body of work spans almost four decades. Born in Lima, Peru in the 1950s, he emigrated to Los Angeles at age 11 and began taking photographs ten years later to record his own sense of dislocation. In subsequent years, Porcari went on to document his observations of cities (New York, Chicago, Europe, Latin America) through occasional series of photographs, which have also included cinematically-inspired collages, portraits of Los Angeles/international artist friends, the US-Mexican border, and still-lives of an intensely-curated assortment of books.

Latin America and Existentialism

Latin America and Existentialism
Author: Edwin Murillo
Publisher: University of Wales Press
Total Pages: 338
Release: 2023-06-15
Genre: Literary Criticism
ISBN: 1837720010

Latin America and Existentialism is a preliminary intellectual history, prioritising literature and contextualising Latin American philosophical contributions from the 1860s to the late 1930s, decades that coincide with the canon’s foundational years. This study takes a Pan-American approach to move the critical focus away from the River Plate, a region that has received some critical attention. In doing so, it focuses on existentially-neglected writers such as Brazil’s Machado de Assis and Graciliano Ramos, José Asunción Silva from Colombia, Cuba’s Enrique Labrador Ruiz, and the Chilean María Luisa Bombal. Underappreciated Latin American philosophical voices and existentialism’s canonical perspectives allow the author to discuss the many problems concerning the experiencing ‘I’ of these authors, and to consider such existential themes as ethical vacuity, forlornness, the crisis of insufficiency, the conundrum of choice, and the enigma of authentic being. The concentration on Latin America’s existentially-hued interest in the human condition is an invitation to the reader to reconsider the peripheral status in the existentialism canon.
