'Kate Danton, or, Captain Danton's Daughters' is a romance-drama novel written by May Agnes Fleming. The story begins by introducing us to a young lady, described as "tall and not pretty", sitting at a window in a low, oblong room in a large house on a rainy afternoon. She is deep in her thoughts and is disturbed only by the arrival of a letter and the entrance of a servant, Babette, who brings her some coal and tells her that Miss Eeny is practicing in the parlor. The letter is from Henry Danton, who tells her that he and his daughter, Kate, will arrive at the house on the 7th and that they will be accompanied by an invalid gentleman named Mr. Richards.
