Analytical methods and procedures in this compendium have undergone rigorous scientific and systematic scrutiny to determine the performance characteristics for the intended analiyical application and fitness for pupose. AOAC INTERNATIONAL members and other volunteers have reviewed the analytical results and determined that particular method is appropriate for the analyte and matrix stated, provided the analysis is conducted by a competent analyst as written.

In the course of the project COST 91 *, on the Effects of Thermal Processing and Distribution on the Quality and Nutritive Value of Food, it became clear that approved methods were needed for vitamin determination in food. An expert group on vitamins met in March 1981 to set the requirements which these methods must meet. On the basis of these requirements, methods were selected for vitamin A, ~-carotene, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin C and vitamin E. Unfortunately, for vitamins B2 (riboflavin), B6 and D only tentative methods could be chosen, since the methods available only partially fulfilled the require ments set by the expert group. For niacin and folic acid some references only could be given because none of the existing methods satisfied these requirements, and for vitamin B , vitamin K, pantothenic acid and 12 biotin it was not considered possible to give even references. All methods were carefully described in detail so that every laboratory worker could use them without being an expert in vitamin assay. In October 1983 an enlarged expert group on vitamins approved the compilation of methods and approached a publishing house with a view to publication. The editors wish to thank Dr Peter Zeuthen, the leader of the project COST 91, for his interest in their work, and Mr G.

Planar Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry focuses on a relatively new approach to chemical analysis in general, and to separation science in particular. It is the first book to systemically cover the theoretical background, techniques, instrumentation, and practical applications of planar chromatography-mass spectrometry as a hyphenated tool of analy

The legislative requirement for cannabis to undergo laboratory testing has followed legalization of medical and recreational use in every U.S. state to date. Cannabis safety testing is a new investment opportunity within the emerging cannabis market that is separate from cultivation, processing, and distribution, allowing individuals and organizations who may have been reluctant to enter previously a new entry route to the cannabis space. However, many of the costs, timelines, operational requirements, and compliance issues are overlooked by people who have not been exposed to regulated laboratory testing. Cannabis Laboratory Fundamentals provides an in-depth review of the key issues that impact cannabis testing laboratories and provides recommendations and solutions to avoid common – but expensive – mistakes. The text goes beyond methodology to include sections on economics, regulation, and operational challenges, making it useful for both new and experienced cannabis laboratory operators, as well as all those who want to understand the opportunities and risks of this industry.

An insightful exploration of the key aspects concerning the chemical analysis of antibiotic residues in food The presence of excess residues from frequent antibiotic use in animals is not only illegal, but can pose serious health risks by contaminating products for human consumption such as meat and milk. Chemical Analysis of Antibiotic Residues in Food is a single-source reference for readers interested in the development of analytical methods for analyzing antibiotic residues in food. It covers themes that include quality assurance and quality control, antibiotic chemical properties, pharmacokinetics, metabolism, distribution, food safety regulations, and chemical analysis. In addition, the material presented includes background information valuable for understanding the choice of marker residue and target animal tissue to use for regulatory analysis. This comprehensive reference: Includes topics on general issues related to screening and confirmatory methods Presents updated information on food safety regulation based on routine screening and confirmatory methods, especially LC-MS Provides general guidance for method development, validation, and estimation of measurement uncertainty Chemical Analysis of Antibiotic Residues in Food is written and organized with a balance between practical use and theory to provide laboratories with a solid and reliable reference on antibiotic residue analysis. Thorough coverage elicits the latest scientific findings to assist the ongoing efforts toward refining analytical methods for producing safe foods of animal origin.
