This Armentrout line is descended from the widow, Ann Elizabeth (Hain) Ermentraudt, who was born in Germany prior to 1699. She arrived on the ship 'Samuel', from Rotterdam at the port of Philadelphia 1739. She settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with her six sons, Johannes, Johan Philip, Johan Frederich, Christopher, Henrick, and George, and one daughter, Ann Elizabeth. Later family sold their holdings in Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia. In time family members migrated to other states. This line went to Ohio and then to Illinois. This book deals mainly with the direct line descending from Joseph Armentrout (1806-1863), born in Virginia, and his wife Abigail Lasley, whom he married 1829 in Fairfield Co., Ohio.
