For forty-five years he was a deacon and trustee of the Baptist Church of Juda. A great worker in the church, he is known as a solid and substantial citizen. In February. I901, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell removed to Monroe. where he is erecting a fine modem residence and where he expects to finish his days on Green county, 'is., where he followed farining until his death in 1893. He had married F crina Marty, in his native land, and by her had a family of fourteen children, nine of whom are now living: John; Ulrich; Henry; jacob; Adam; Barbara, wife of Abraham Kubli; Lenke, wife of Isaac Stauifacher; Mary, wife of Peter Staufiacher; and Ferina, wife of Peter Elmer. All but the last named make their homes in Green county, and she resides in Austin, Minn. Mrs. F erina (Marty) Elmer was a daughter of a Mr. Marty, a native of Switzerland, who came to America and joined the early settlers of Green county, "isconsin. Conrad K. Elmer was early educated to the life of a farmer, and continued to follov it as an occupation throughout his entire life. His literary training was all acquired by an attendance at the district schools, although by careful observation and intelligent reading in later life, he became a well-informed man. 'hen he first started out in life for himself, he rented land, and his first purchase consisted of 120 acres, which lie afterward disposed of, and in company with two of his brothers, purchased 300 acres in Sylvester township. Thomas Williams (1743-1826), a Revolutionary War soldier, was born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and died in Hamilton County, Ohio. He and his wife, Sarah, (1744?-1830), had at least one son, Thomas Williams born in New York or New Jersey. He married Maria Quick, before 1795. They had at least eight children. The family was living at Luberland Township, Ulster County, New York, in 1800. and in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, by 1836. Descendants listed lived in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, Oregon, and elsewhere.
