Warfield, D.D., was elected Professor of Didactic and Polemic Theology in Princeton Seminary, at a special meeting of the Board of Directors, held in February, 1887. His formal inauguration was postponed at his own request, and took place by appointment, on Tuesday, May 8, 1888, at 11.30 o'clock, in the First Presbyterian Church of Princeton. The order of exercises on this occasion was as follows: Hymn. Prayer, by the Rev. Dr. Philip Schaff, Professor in Union Theological Seminary, New York. Administration of the Pledge to the New Professor, by the Rev. Dr. Gosman, President of the Board of Directors. The Charge, by the Rev. Dr. James T. Leftwich, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Baltimore. The Inaugural Address, by Professor Warfield. Benediction.
