This completely revised and updated edition of Don't Tell Me What To Do, Just Send Money prepares parents for the issues that they will encounter during their children's college years. Since our original publication over ten years ago, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of cell phone and internet technology. The birth of the term ‘helicopter parent' is, in part, due to the instant and frequent connectivity that parents have with their children today. Parents are struggling with the appropriate use of communicative technology and aren't aware of its impact on their child's development, both personally and academically. With straightforward practicality and using humorous and helpful case examples and dialogues, Don't Tell Me What To Do, Just Send Money helps parents lay the groundwork for a new kind of relationship so that they can help their child more effectively handle everything they'll encounter during their college years.

I never met my great uncle. I really, only knew his name. His story begins for me with a box of letters and mementos saved by my great aunt. I always knew the box existed, but I had never opened it. My mother would often say, Oh, those letters are from Lowell during the war. They are so sad. Well, who would want to read anything that was sad? So, the story of Lowell Read and the true love that he had for my great aunt stayed packed away in a box for 65 years. My father and I came across the box during a spring cleaning frenzy and decided that it was time to read the letters and put them in some type of notebook to preserve them. Little did I know that I was about to become involved in the story of Lowell & Sue Reads life and unwavering love for each other. As I read each letter and placed them in order, I grew to know and admire both Lowell and Sue. There were other items in the box besides the letters. These items included a small Bible, a set of dog tags, a service medal, a shell bracelet, a small notebook, and numerous other articles. The letters shed light on all these other items and I realized that my great aunt had saved everything because of the special meaning that they held. Lowell ended almost every letter with the words, So, goodnight Dear and I do love you. I created this compilation to honor a man I never met and to preserve the memory of a love that never ended. I hope you enjoy reading his letters and getting to know him as much as I did.

Climb to new heights in this sequel to I love you, send money. In this next installment of the Alexis story, you can expect lots more lessons and lots more love. Comfortable flying solo, she never expected the rendezvous with Jack to boomerang. If their one-night meet-cute in Hawaii left the pair pondering love-at-first-sight, an unforgettable six-day ‘first date’ had the couple contemplating – could this be happily ever after? In this extreme love story, Alexis balances a long-distance courtship with learning the art of self-love – both elusive, but for different reasons. The romance freefall triggers her inner demons to rear their ugly heads. Each pose a new threat as Alexis grows more anxious, lonely and depressed. She seeks answers to deeper questions that underpin her life, beliefs, and foundations. Will she leave behind her excess baggage and don her own oxygen mask before it’s too late? Aristotle once said, ‘knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.’ What he neglected to mention, was that it might cause turbulence…

The essays in Beyond the City Limits, all published here for the first time, decisively break this silence and challenge traditional readings of B.C. history. In this wide-ranging collection, R.W. Sandwell draws together a distinguished group of contributors who bring expertise, methodologies, and theoretical perspectives taken from social and political history, environmental studies, cultural geography, and anthropology. They discuss such diverse topics as Aboriginal-White settler relations on Vancouver Island, pimping and violence in northern BC, and the triumph of the coddling moth over Okanagan orchardists, to show that a narrow emphasis on resource extraction, capitalist labour relations, and urban society is simply not broad enough to adequately describe those who populated the province's history.
