We are all that. A summation of the could haves. A result of the choices not made, as much as of the choices made. The 80’s. An era before India opened herself up to possibilities. An era of constraints and deprivation. Individualism, private spaces, essence and excesses were all largely unheard of. For the 80’s kids, this also meant limited choices and austerity of dreams. Choices were mostly a lack of options, or those made for them by others: clothes, television channels, education, partner, career…, etc. Like every other child in his school album, he wore the same smile and the same unimaginative clothes rolled out by the neighbourhood tailor. He continued mimicking others’ smiles and then their career choices too. Until one day when he realised how ill-fitting his garbs were. How his true smiles remained hesitant to be completed. How deep that void had grown in him. And then, the jigsaw of a perfect-looking life went into scramble mode. An unexpected divorce, an indefinite sabbatical, darkness, questions with no answers. An urge to go back to the comfort of the familiar versus that desire to experience the unknown. End of it, most questions were answered. The rest died or were killed. The void filled, and smiles completed. He then wrote poems, stories and a book about it. About how he made unforced choices, first time in four decades. About how he killed the golden goose, against all proverbial advice.

This volume brings together studies on Greek animal sacrifice by foremost experts in Greek language, literature and material culture. Readers will benefit from the synthesis of new evidence and approaches with a re-evaluation of twentieth-century theories on sacrifice. The chapters range across the whole of antiquity and go beyond the Greek world to consider possible influences in Hittite Anatolia and Egypt, while an introduction to the burgeoning science of osteo-archaeology is provided. The twentieth-century emphasis on sacrifice as part of the Classical Greek polis system is challenged through consideration of various ancient perspectives on sacrifice as distinct from specific political or even Greek contexts. Many previously unexplored topics are covered, particularly the type of animals sacrificed and the spectrum of sacrificial ritual, from libations to lasting memorials of the ritual in art.

Set in New York and New Jersey during the early 1990s, "Brushstrokes of a Gadfly" reveals the story of Katherine Walsingham, the only daughter of the CEO and Chairman of Walsingham Industries, an international cosmetic and pharmaceutical company that has been in the family for generations. Daunted by its global proportions, she has no real interest in the business other than its sentimental value. An artist by calling and temperament, a lover of literature, a philosophical idealist and animal rights activist unafraid to speak her mind, Katherine has a talent for leaping ahead with anything that seems like a good idea at the time ... often landing in hot water with her sharp tongue and allegorical paintings to the consternation and amusement of everyone around her. Setting her heart on opening her own gallery when she graduates from an elite art college, life is good. With a trust fund to secure her, she has no real worries that are the plague of struggling artists, but soon discovers wealth does not guarantee a smooth passage in life, for all her plans do not turn out exactly as she expected. Opening a gallery is not an easy task, and Katherine must quickly learn to balance art and business, demanding customers and harsh art critics, family tragedies and disappointments. With so much to do, romance is the last thing on her mind, and despite her best efforts to avoid any entanglements, falls in love with one of New York's most eligible bachelors. From her own reticence to become involved with anyone, to the rumours spread about his family, it is a relationship that seems doomed, but Katherine finds that love will blossom where it will and cannot be controlled or stifled, nor the joy and heartache that accompanies it. "Brushstrokes of a Gadfly" is a story brimming with vibrant and entertaining characters that only New York's High Society and art circles can provide. It is a colourful and amusing novel tinged with human tragedy.
