Abstract: Findings and progress of research on thiamin are described in a variety of papers presented at a 1982 conference. The major areas of research addressed are: chemistry and metabolism; thiamin antagonists; enzymatic synthesis and breakdown of thiamin phosphates; thiamin pyrophosphate-requiring enzymes; thiamin and carbohydrate metabolism; and physiologic, metabolic, neurologic and medical aspects of thiamin. Significant instrumental ave contributed many facts concerning the behavior and promotion of thiamin, but no unified theory has yet d. The research reported, describes the progress and problems leading to that objective. Aspects of the role of thiamin in disease and of thiamin deficiency also are included. (wz).
