Eatons were among the earliest emigrants from England and Wales to New England, Francis having arrived at Plymouth on the Mayflower in 1620. He settled in Massachusetts, married three times, and died in 1633. John Eaton, of Dover (1611-1658), married Abigail Damon in 1630, emigrated in 1635, and settled in Massachusetts. William Eaton, of County Kent (1604-1658 or 1673), arrived in New England before 1637 with his wife Martha Jenkins, also settling in Massachusetts. Thomas Eaton landed in Rhode Island, married Jerusha Wing, and settled in New Jersey in 1670. Descendants of these immigrants have spread throughout the United States. This Eaton history also identifies descendants of the Nova Scotian, Welsh, and Irish branches of the family.
