Andrew Proudfoot, a farmer, of Perthshire, Scotland, was the father of four sons who emigrated to America, Andrew and James in 1754; Robert and David in 1759. (1) Andrew Proudfoot was born in 1728. He settled in York County, Pennsylvania. In 1769, he married Sarah (1733-1811), daughter of Alexander and Agnes Wallace. He died in 1807. (2) James Proudfoot was the pastor in the Associate Presbyterian Church in Pequea, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1759, he married Mary Fulton. He died in 1802 at age 70. (3) Robert Proudfoot settled on a farm in Hopewell, York County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary McKittrick but had no children. He died in 1802. (4) David Proudfoot was also a farmer in York County. He married Nancy Livingston. Most descendants of the three brothers spelled their name "Proudfit." They lived in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio and elsewhere.
