This book is devoted to motility disorders of the gut and their diagnosis, a field which can be frustrating when classical histological staining techniques are used. The use of enzyme histochemical techniques, however, provides important information on functional abnormalities of colon motility, which is demonstrated here in more than two hundred photomicrographs. During recent years enzyme histochemical reactions have increasingly been considered as important, the reason being that enzyme histo chemistry is now a well-established link between morphology and bio chemistry. The symptom of chronic constipation is often caused by a series of intestinal diseases, which can be reliably diagnosed histopathologically by histochemical techniques and consequently treated by surgical intervention.
