Each herb is shown in both plant and dried form. The simplified Chinese character is included with each herb drawing as well. Originally created using a brush with black and white inks, these images will be used in Herb Apothecary: The Game (to be published later in 2016 or 2017). Some pages present with a bit extra blank space around the herb. These are for the colorist to explore their own esthetic in terms of design. Possibilities include a playground for stamping; color gradations; patterns; collage. Or perhaps they are just space for breathing and visual quiet. For students these spaces welcome your notes.There is also room on the page facing the coloring page for notes. Additionally on the facing page is information about the the herbs such as one finds in Chinese herbal materia medicas. This information is taken from the miniature Materia Medica written for Herb Apothecary: The Game.Much experimentation was done on the proof book received from Create Space. The following mediums work well on this paper: felt tip pens: colored pencils: thin water color, 1 or 2 layers. This paper works fine with layering all these mediums. Most paper wrinkling can be minimized by pressing under heavy books. You are welcome to try other mediums. There are some blank pages in the back for experimentation. Don't hesitate to bend back the pages for a flat surface; the spine is a sturdy one.
