A two-in-one text providing teaching lab students with an overview of immunology as well as a lab manual complete with current standard exercises. Section I of this book provides an overview of the immune system and immunity, and includes review questions, problem sets, case studies, inquiry-based questions, and more to provide students with a strong foundation in the field. Section II consists of twenty-two lab exercises focused on key concepts in immunology, such as antibody production, cell separation, cell function, immunoassays, Th1/Th2 cytokine detection, cell and tissue culture methods, and cell and molecular biology techniques. Appendices include safety information, suggested links and readings, and standard discipline processes, protocols, and instructions.

The new fifth edition of the highly acclaimed Handbook of Experimental Immunology has been completely restructured and extensively revised to reflect the considerable increase in the importance of immunology as a research discipline. Produced in four volumes (available for separate purchase) or as a set, the text provides a complete reference, including experimental protocols and explications of general principles. Each section contains overviews and chapters describing the background and technical detail of a comprehensive range of immunological procedures in immunochemistry, cellular immunology, genetics and molecular immunology, and the application of immunological methods. All material available within the four-volume text can be found on this new dual-platform CD-ROM, including the extended indexing and cross-referencing possible with electronic media. The CD-ROM also comprises several of the lengthy and highly informative contributions, which were abridged in the printed version. Also included are additional notes and illustrations, which extend the scope of the material, and a statistical software package, which complements the statistical section of the printed version.

Overall recent research on TLRs has led to tremendous increase in our understanding of early steps in pathogen recognition and will presumably lead to potent TLR targeting therapeutics in the future. This book reviews and highlights our recent understanding on the function and ligands of TLRs as well as their role in autoimmunity, dendritic cell activation and target structures for therapeutic intervention.

The chapters in CYTOMETRY MCB volumes, including this 4th Edition, provide comprehensive description of particular cytometric methods and review their applications. Some chapters also describe new instrumentation and provide fundamental information on use of new fluorescent probes and on data analysis. Although the term "edition" suggests the update of earlier volumes, in fact, nearly all chapters of the 4th Edition are devoted to new topics. The authors were invited to present not only technical protocols, such as available in other methodology books that specialize in the protocol format, but also to discuss the aspects of the methodology that generally are not included in the protocols. Many chapters, thus, present the theoretical foundations of the described methods, their applicability in experimental laboratory and clinical setting, common traps and pitfalls, problems with data interpretation, comparison with alternative assays, choice of the optimal assay, etc. Some chapters review applications of cytometry and complementary methodologies to particular biological problems or clinical tasks. - Comprehensive presentation of cytometric methods covering theoretical applications, applicability, potential pitfalls, and comparisions to alternative assays - Discusses many new assays developed since the previous edition - Presents recent developments in cytometric intrumentation/technology
