There are many questions that fishermen ask themselves. Why do certain lures appeal to certain types of fish? How does the physical make-up of a type of fish affect its hunting strategy? Do fish learn to avoid lures and hooks? In Through the Fish’s Eye, these questions, and much more are answered. A classic book written by some of the best names in the business, Through the Fish’s Eye offers a new perspective on the art of fishing by breaking down the behavior of the fish and tying it into their biological make-up. Skyhorse Publishing is proud to publish a broad range of books for fishermen. Our books for anglers include titles that focus on fly fishing, bait fishing, fly-casting, spin casting, deep sea fishing, and surf fishing. Our books offer both practical advice on tackle, techniques, knots, and more, as well as lyrical prose on fishing for bass, trout, salmon, crappie, baitfish, catfish, and more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to publishing books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked by other publishers and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Excerpt from The Game Fishes of British Columbia Returning to the trout of the Province. The writer does not know of any lake or stream within its boundaries from which the angler may not at some season of the year fill the largest of creels in a day's fishing. In many of the smaller coast rivers and streams the season is limited to a few weeks in the spring. And again in the fall after the first heavy rains. Though an expert angler may succeed at any time in taking a few big ones from any of the large streams. On the larger rivers and lakes of the interior the seasons vary somewhat. Depending chiefly upon the spring and early summer freshets. Either just before or just after high water is considered the best season for angling the streams; very few of the lake feeding streams can be successfully fished during high water. In the big lakes. Like the Kootenay. Okanagan, and Shuswap. The best trolling is to be had in June and july. Formerly the great Okan agan Lake afl'orded rare sport during the winter months to the angler who wanted big fish. But the present law provides for a closed season from November tsth to May ist. Excerpt from The Fish and Game Attractions of the Dominion of Canada The rapid advance of civilization and the onward march of settlement throughout the more easily accessible portions of the North American continent have encompassed the de struction of much of the game in districts that were formerly renowned as hunting territories, and of the fish that made famous many lakes and rivers that now possess little or no attraction' for the angler. The buffalo - the noblest big game of the New World - which, but a few de cades since roamed the Western' prairies in countless thousands, is now all but an extinct variety and much of the former fish wealth of the Hudson, the Connecticut and almost all the more northerly of °american streams flowing directly into the Atlantic ocean, which had survived the supposed destructiveness of the aboriginal inhabitants, could not long endure the higher civilization of the Pilgrim Fathers and their descendants, so that the salmon of the New England streams have gone the way that was to be later followed by the American bison. Excerpt from The Sportsman and Naturalist in Canada, or Notes on the Natural History of the Game, Game Birds and Fish of That Country The climate is as healthy as it is delightful, at all seasons: whether in the glorious days of summer, when ruby-throated humming-birds it from ower to ower; in the glowing autumn, when tints of brightness unknown in other lands invest the forest with their gorgeous mantle; in the dreamy softness of that wonderful period called the Indian summer or in the clear glistening winter, with its sparkling fields of pure snow, its cloudless blue skies, and merry sleigh-bells. During a sojourn in these regions, extending over a period of three years, constantly rod in hand or roaming the woods with dog and gun, I habitually recorded in my note-book memoranda on the haunts and habits of the birds and animals which I have endeavoured to describe in the succeeding pages; and I can only hope that my jottings may be useful to those who read them, with the View of themselves enjoying the same pursuits, and interesting to those who would recal similar bygone days of agreeable recreation. Excerpt from The Big Game Fishes, of the United States Every sea-angler has his peculiar methods, his rods, knots, lines, and hooks, and I may be par doned for giving my own experiences among the great game fishes referred to in this volume, all of which I have taken many times in years spent, winter and summer, on the Florida Reef, among the Californian islands, and along the seaboard of nearly every state where fishes can be caught. These personal experiences are supplemented by the prevailing methods of the various localities so far as known.
