Gatluk G. Digiew is a little boy cowherd when Civil War erupts in his homeland, South Sudan, and upends his life forever. His memoir, God Threw Me Back: A Child Survives War in Sudan, tells his horrific story through the eyes of a child. Gatluk is wrenched from his family at age nineshot and left for dead at thirteen. During his agonizing, often solitary, four-year journey to recovery and safely in a new homeland, Gatluk draws courage from his fathers early lessons and deep Christian faith. Gatluk emerges, not as a victim, but as a voice for the battered children of war who cannot speak for themselves.

A New York Times Notable Book A Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2012 A bold approach to understanding the American evangelical experience from an anthropological and psychological perspective by one of the country's most prominent anthropologists. Through a series of intimate, illuminating interviews with various members of the Vineyard, an evangelical church with hundreds of congregations across the country, Tanya Luhrmann leaps into the heart of evangelical faith. Combined with scientific research that studies the effect that intensely practiced prayer can have on the mind, When God Talks Back examines how normal, sensible people—from college students to accountants to housewives, all functioning perfectly well within our society—can attest to having the signs and wonders of the supernatural become as quotidian and as ordinary as laundry. Astute, sensitive, and extraordinarily measured in its approach to the interface between science and religion, Luhrmann's book is sure to generate as much conversation as it will praise.

What Do You Do When It Seems God Hasn’t Come Through for You? When the miracle-working God whom Pastor Stacy Henagan loved and served did not answer the prayers on behalf of her terminally ill one-year-old daughter as expected, she was left crushed with grief and struggling to understand. How could a loving God allow this to happen? What do you do when it seems God has let you down? Is God trustworthy? Rather than choosing to remain in overwhelming pain and doubt, Stacy emerged with a much greater belief that God is good and trustworthy, even when we don’t think His plans make sense. A Gospel-Rich, Reproducible Model for Making Disciples as Jesus Intended Biblical discipleship emphasizes encouragement, repentance, and spiritual growth—essential parts of the Christian life. However, well-meaning believers often struggle to follow Jesus, unaware their views are too legalistic, licentious, or individualistic. How can churches and Christians develop a healthy, successful path to disciple-making? In this second edition of Gospel-Centered Discipleship, Jonathan Dodson presents an effective, Spirit-led model for sanctification. Reminding readers that real discipleship is imperfect yet transformational, Dodson encourages Christians to engage more authentically with others as they grow in faith. Drawing from his own failures and successes while following Jesus, Dodson defines discipleship, describes the heart of a disciple, and gives practical guidance for mentor and peer-based discipleship as Jesus intended. Revised and Expanded: Includes three new chapters and new illustrations Applicable: Shows how discipleship can be practical and gospel-centered Theological: Addresses the Holy Spirit's involvement in discipleship Foreword by Matt Chandler: Author of The Explicit Gospel

GOD WANTS ME HERE -- FOR NOW -- God’s Protection through Psychiatric Medication Adverse Reactions is an account of the psychiatric medication mismanagement I have endured and that difficult journey. Though a college educated, confident and involved, married mother of three, I learned the hard way to give grave respect to psychiatric medications. My travails have taught me to do my own research when accepting prescribed medications and not to trust the advice of doctors regarding the safety of the choice, the quantity prescribed, or the method to stop. I was totally unprepared for the level of suffering from antidepressant mismanagement (which was especially complicated by Gabapentin), the disbelief of doctors, or the judgment by family and friends. I had no idea that doctor training was so inadequate regarding those drugs or of the thousands of people, like me, who report their symptoms and are daily diagnosed as somatically preoccupied or with a conversion disorder. The pain caused by inappropriately prescribed drugs affected my jobs, my children, my finances, my public perception, and my involvement in life. (I have lost precious years of life because of psychiatric drugs.) My experience has awakened me to a desperate need in the medical community. I now advocate for informed consent of consumers, better training for doctors, insurance coverage for tapering, smaller manufactured drug quantities, penalties for doctors who cold turkey or fast taper a dangerous drug, and less flippant prescribing of those drugs.

What makes this book extremely unique is that the story portion, minus the editing process, was actually written in less than one week. The principles, which are at the end of the story, were written during Tonys journey in his initial seven months with God. In Tonys own words he says: I was not raised in church. I have never known God. Truthfully, I have never actually known myself. My familys love and their concerns for my well-being had always fallen on deaf ears. Simply by establishing my life around counterfeit friends, it forced me to live in the darkest reality of my time. What changed? I went to kill a manand instead Jesus interfered. It is quite unbelievable how believable God really is. The Bible would become the first Book I ever read. Did I understand it at first? No. But the Bible is not based on logical thinking, but illogical people. Lord, I refuse to leave Your presence until You bring out of me what You promised was in me. With that same perspective, the Bible contains a power that enables us to go beyond ourselves. Its mind-blowing how within seven months God can flip your world inside out!

We all have treasures within. When we explore those treasures, “we offer hope to a dying world.” Treasures of hope will release so many others to share their experiences without guilt, shame or condemnation. Even the soft spoken will begin to allow their stories to burst forth like thunder. In order to become an overcomer, deliverance of some sort has to take place. We have each been given a gift, not a gift of gab, but a gift of the word of our testimony. When we use our testimonies to glorify God we show others that though there will always be “tests” the “monies” are never too far behind. Move outside of yourself and inspire others to live. Come out of bondage to secrecy.

Sometimes God has to slow us down enough to navigate the turn that will put us on the path to complete the tasks for which we were created. A stroke that cut off the signals from my brain to my right side was that blessing He chose to enrich my life. This is the first in the series of gratitude journals, written after I survived that stroke. Learning that strokes did not only happened to “old folks”; imperfection is not a sign of weakness; and tears, not always a sign that I had chosen to be unhappy; gave me a new outlook on life. The challenges of being a Caregiver and overcoming guilt were lessons well learned. But through it all, God sent me “Earthly Angels” to walk with me and show me love. And best of all, He walked and talked with me all the way. When the Spirit inspired me to write this series of journals, I was urged to “connect the dots” between the events of my life. Then I would see how God had caused things to happen for my greater good. More than 6 years later, I was given the word to go ahead and share these journals and let you see for yourself how God works things out. Instead of “connecting the dots” for you, I simply left it as it had been recorded to let you see the movement of God, probably in places that I hadn’t even noticed. But it was not until I truly said “Yes” to God, and gave up some old things, could I begin to flow in His will. I have found that God will not let us rest until we obey. But obedience brings with it such sweet peace that it is well worth it.
