Excerpt from From the Limbo of Forgotten Things a Book of Verse "Philip (Augustus') second wife was Ingeborg of Denmark, whom he married in 1193, and divorced the day after their marriage. He soon afterward married Agnes of Meran. Ingeborg appealed to the Pope, who took her cause in hand, and, on Philip's refusing to abandon Agnes, placed the kingdom under an interdict. The services ceased in all the churches: the people were without prayers. In the end the king was obliged to yield. He sent away Agnes of Meran, who died of grief, and took Ingeborg back." Victor Duruy, History of France. Note. The cause of Philip's repudiation of Ingeborg has never been known to history. For the purposes of romance I have assumed it to be his already formed attachment to Agnes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Out of the Silence: A Book of Verse In the sound of song and music There's a charm for those who hear, And they look upon me sadly When they see me standing near. And they think that I am lonely As they reckon What I miss, And they seem to be so sorry That I lose this cherished bliss. But I Wish that I could tell them, As I smile and turn away, Of the voices ever singing Through the night and through day, Voices full of sweet reminders Of the days of long ago, And I hear again the echo Of those songs I used to know. Excerpt from Missing Links and Other Things The author regrets that, due to hasty proof-reading, several typographical errors have crept into the verses, which have a nasty habit of staring at him as the eyes of dead man do at the man's murderer. But the author consoles himself with the thought that such things creep into the best regulated publications.
