'What makes this collection unusual and refreshing is that it is not the more common ‘Festschrift’ written by specialists for specialists, but a broad set of topical summaries and analyses addressed to a wide readership of particle physicists. Inevitably, some of the sections are more advanced in their treatment than others, but most of the material will be accessible and helpful to researchers at all levels, and in particular to those working on experiments at CERN, where Altarelli spent many years in the theory group. It is hard to do justice to the varied contents of this excellent collection … I can only recommend that anyone involved in particle research should turn to the web for a full description of the richness of material that is included here … There is something here for everyone, and much for most. I’m sure Altarelli would have been pleased with that! The Editors are to be complimented for their initiative in making this unique volume possible.'Contemporary PhysicsGuido Altarelli was a leading figure in 20th century particle physics. His scientific contributions and leadership played a key role in the development of the Standard Model of fundamental interactions, as well as the current search for new physics beyond it, both at and beyond CERN. This book is a collection of original contributions, at the cutting edge of scientific research, by some of the leading theoretical and experimental high-energy physicists currently in the field. These were inspired by Guido's ideas, whether directly or indirectly. This book is ideal for researchers looking to keep up with the latest developments in high-energy physics.

This book has been designed to honor Lev Nikolaevich Lipatov, as a person and as one of the leading scientists in theoretical high energy physics. The book begins with three articles on Lev as a person, written endearingly by family members, a very close friend and Physics professor, Eugene Levin, and another outstanding scientist, Alfred Mueller. The book further collects 18 articles by several scientists who closely knew and/or collaborated with Lev.With an overarching range over various subfields, the book summarizes parts of Lev's achievements, presents new results which are based upon Lev's work, and paints an outlook on possible future developments. Lev's theoretical work has had an influential impact on phenomenology and experimental high energy physics; befittingly, this collection also includes several articles on these experimental aspects.

This book is a collection of invited contributions presented at the 8th edition of the International Workshop on Theory, Phenomenology and Experiments in Flavour Physics, held on the Island of Capri, Italy, on 11–13 June 2022. It is a joint workshop between experimentalists and theoreticians aiming at debating recent results and hot topics in flavour physics, in an interdisciplinary effort. Flavour, electroweak physics and neutrino physics are all foremost in the assessment of results within the standard model and search for physics beyond. Anomalies in flavour physics are hints on new physics, while with neutrino masses and oscillations the new physics has already started. Contributions deal mainly with the flavour anomalies, the flavour problem from leptons to quarks and back, including continuous versus discrete symmetries, and the connections between the Higgs sector and neutrinos, embracing see-saw models and Higgs potential analyses. Focus is on neutrinos, at high and low scales, including LHC searches and CLVF, leptogenesis, connections with dark sectors and NP mediators, non-standard neutrino interactions and the problem of the nature of massive neutrinos.

This lecture note provides a tutorial review of non-Abelian discrete groups and presents applications to particle physics where discrete symmetries constitute an important principle for model building. While Abelian discrete symmetries are often imposed in order to control couplings for particle physics—particularly model building beyond the standard model—non-Abelian discrete symmetries have been applied particularly to understand the three-generation flavor structure. The non-Abelian discrete symmetries are indeed considered to be the most attractive choice for a flavor sector: Model builders have tried to derive experimental values of quark and lepton masses, mixing angles and CP phases on the assumption of non-Abelian discrete flavor symmetries of quarks and leptons, yet lepton mixing has already been intensively discussed in this context as well. Possible origins of the non-Abelian discrete symmetry for flavors are another topic of interest, as they can arise from an underlying theory, e.g., the string theory or compactification via orbifolding as geometrical symmetries such as modular symmetries, thereby providing a possible bridge between the underlying theory and corresponding low-energy sector of particle physics. The book offers explicit introduction to the group theoretical aspects of many concrete groups, and readers learn how to derive conjugacy classes, characters, representations, tensor products, and automorphisms for these groups (with a finite number) when algebraic relations are given, thereby enabling readers to apply this to other groups of interest. Further, CP symmetry and modular symmetry are also presented.

The Young Universe presents four major physical and astrophysical themes related to these extreme phases of the primordial universe. In particular, it presents the physics of the primordial plasma and the concepts of quantum and particle physics necessary to describe this extreme state. It discusses the cosmological background radiation and explores inflation, an extremely rapid expansion phase that is believed to have occurred very early in cosmological history and to have shaped our present universe. The book also provides a synthesis of the dark matter problem.

This volume presents modern trends in the area of symmetries and their applications based on contributions to the Workshop "Lie Theory and Its Applications in Physics" held in Sofia, Bulgaria (on-line) in June 2021. Traditionally, Lie theory is a tool to build mathematical models for physical systems. Recently, the trend is towards geometrization of the mathematical description of physical systems and objects. A geometric approach to a system yields in general some notion of symmetry which is very helpful in understanding its structure. Geometrization and symmetries are meant in their widest sense, i.e., representation theory, algebraic geometry, number theory, infinite-dimensional Lie algebras and groups, superalgebras and supergroups, groups and quantum groups, noncommutative geometry, symmetries of linear and nonlinear partial differential operators, special functions, and others. Furthermore, the necessary tools from functional analysis are included. This is a big interdisciplinary and interrelated field. The topics covered in this Volume are the most modern trends in the field of the Workshop: Representation Theory, Symmetries in String Theories, Symmetries in Gravity Theories, Supergravity, Conformal Field Theory, Integrable Systems, Quantum Computing and Deep Learning, Entanglement, Applications to Quantum Theory, Exceptional quantum algebra for the standard model of particle physics, Gauge Theories and Applications, Structures on Lie Groups and Lie Algebras. This book is suitable for a broad audience of mathematicians, mathematical physicists, and theoretical physicists, including researchers and graduate students interested in Lie Theory.
