“Considering the high gifts, and the strong claims of the Church of Rome and its dependencies on our admiration, reverence, love, and gratitude, how could we withstand it, as we do; how could we refrain from being melted into tenderness, and rushing into communion with it, but for the words of Truth itself, which bid us prefer it to the whole world? ‘He that loveth father or mother more than Me, is not worthy of Me.’ How could we learn to be severe, and execute judgment, but for the warning of Moses against even a divinely-gifted teacher who should preach new gods, and the anathema of St. Paul even against Angels and Apostles who should bring in a new doctrine?” Aeterna Press

Still considered essential reading for serious thinkers on religion more than a century and a half after it was written, this seminal work of modern theology, first published in 1845, presents a history of Catholic doctrine from the days of the Apostles to the time of its writing, and follows with specific examples of how the doctrine has not only survived corruption but grown stronger through defending itself against it, and is, therefore, the true religion. This classic of Christian apologetics, considered a foundational work of 19th-century intellectualism on par with Darwin's Origin of Species, is must reading not only for the faithful but also for anyone who wishes to be well educated in the fundamentals of modern thought.

I intend to leave this book to children and grandchildren. I hope it is received in the same spirit that I give it. I love every one of them with all my heart. They are all precious individuals, and I am very proud of each one. May God bless them. Times have changed. I miss the 1940's when things were simple. Today kids are smarter than we were. They are on strange electronic games that I do not understand. I suspect they are addictive and perhaps even harmful, depending on content. The temptations today are many times more problematic than when I grew up. These young people are high-tech, intelligent, and far ahead of me at their age. They are all very smart and are, or will be, well educated. They show signs of becoming very successful in this world. However, my concerns are related to the spiritual side of life and reality. What about life hereafter? Have I prepared them for the next life? I fear I have failed in that regard and I write in order to leave them something about God's word that may take up the slack in things where I have failed. I want to be sure that my kids and grandkids become believing, studious Christians as adults. If there is an afterlife, and I believe there is, it must be of great importance for all so, get ready, I believe we will all have an afterlife. We, in America, are fortunate in that we have freedom of religion and there are churches on every corner teaching the basic principles of our Lord and Savior. My Dad raised me on the bible and denominational doctrine because that's what he knew. He gave me a good start but I have discovered that there is much more to learn than denominational tradition. I believe an open mind is absolutely necessary and denominational training is a closed down system loyal to only one view. I want my children to study God's word. Unfortunately, many churches and church people do not study, but accept a particular traditional doctrine that has been handed down to them. I am now in my late seventies. I am not an academic and hold no degrees in theology. One might say I have a degree in hard knocks, experience, big mistakes, and corrections. I hope that my years of study and faith are enough. After years of doubting, study, research, and prayer I have come to believe that the bible is the most valuable word of wisdom on earth, The Most Treasured of All books on the planet. Very intelligent men and women have tried to disprove the bible but the more they attack, the better the old book looks. It is still the world's best seller. I believe we can base our whole life in this world and the life hereafter on the bible. I intend to convince my children and grandchildren of that, and I pray they read what I have left them.

Christian doctrine has long been due for a closer look. This book goes into Scripture to prove that many accepted doctrines within Church walls do not fit what Scripture declares. One example of this would be what is known as the "Born Again" doctrine. This doctrine has been used to accept anyone who comes forward during an alter call into the family of God. However, is this what Scripture teaches as the true doctrine of Christ? No.Scripture states that only one man had to be born again. That man was Christ. Unfortunately, when people read Scripture, they fail to see that the singular is used when Christ explains His true doctrine to Nicodemus. He plainly states that "A Man" (speaking of Himself) must be born again in order for Nicodemus to see (not enter into) the Kingdom of Heaven. Thus any who would be born again were born again the same instant Christ was born again when He rose from the dead. They cannot be born again during their physical lifetime here on earth. They were already born again through Christ when He resurrected. Therefore, they were chosen before they were even born. This proves that God does the choosing and men cannot choose to be saved. God chose and caused to be born again those whom He wanted as His children before they were even born as Christ resurrected. This and many other subjects are tackled in this book. Many seemingly harmless doctrines have invaded the Church. Yet when viewed from a Scriptural point of view, we see that indeed it makes a tremendous difference what a person believes is the sound doctrine taught by Christ. Yeshua was very specific as to whom He was speaking. When He used the singular, He was speaking of one person. It is only when He used the plural that He was speaking to men in general. Therefore, much of what is used to guide Christian today, was not meant for them at all, and was rather speaking of Christ or someone in Scripture particularly. Careful examination disproves many accepted doctrines within the Church today. Let's take a closer look at the doctrines Christ taught together and maybe, just maybe, the light will begin to shine upon you in truth.,
