This report contains all of the papers presented at a workshop on Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavements (CRCP) which was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. The information presented at the workshop covered all aspects of CRCP including design, construction, and maintenance procedures. The primary emphasis was concentrated on maintenance procedures. The proceedings include papers on polymer patching, under sealing, and flexible and rigid overlays.

This report details the results of an in-depth study of methods and costs of repairing failures in continuously reinforced concrete pavement. The study was conducted in 1977 by teams of Engineers from four States: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Similarities were revealed in the methods of repair used by maintenance personnel in the four States. Subtle differences were also discovered which can be considered for implementation by all of the participants and others to improve their maintenance techniques.

The performance of CRCP has revealed a number of failure modes that are traceable to design, construction, materials, and maintenance deficiencies and such other factors as environemntal conditions and traffic loadings. This report of the Transportation Research Board includes a review of the cumulative experiences of state that have constructed and maintained CRCP. Guidelines for repair techniques are included, and areas of needed research are identified.

Bearing Capacity of Roads, Railways and Airfields includes the contributions to the 10th International Conference on the Bearing Capacity of Roads, Railways and Airfields (BCRRA 2017, 28-30 June 2017, Athens, Greece). The papers cover aspects related to materials, laboratory testing, design, construction, maintenance and management systems of transport infrastructure, and focus on roads, railways and airfields. Additional aspects that concern new materials and characterization, alternative rehabilitation techniques, technological advances as well as pavement and railway track substructure sustainability are included. The contributions discuss new concepts and innovative solutions, and are concentrated but not limited on the following topics: · Unbound aggregate materials and soil properties · Bound materials characteritics, mechanical properties and testing · Effect of traffic loading · In-situ measurements techniques and monitoring · Structural evaluation · Pavement serviceability condition · Rehabilitation and maintenance issues · Geophysical assessment · Stabilization and reinforcement · Performance modeling · Environmental challenges · Life cycle assessment and sustainability Bearing Capacity of Roads, Railways and Airfields is essential reading for academics and professionals involved or interested in transport infrastructure systems, in particular roads, railways and airfields.

In a presentation that formalizes what makes up decision based design, Decision Based Design defines the major concepts that go into product realization. It presents all major concepts in design decision making in an integrated way and covers the fundamentals of decision analysis in engineering design. It also trains engineers to understand the impacts of design decision. The author teaches concepts in demand modeling and customer preference modeling and provides examples. This book teaches most fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design like: concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. The book provides the tools engineering practitioners and researchers need to first understand that engineering design is best viewed as a sequence of decisions made by the stakeholders involved and then apply the decision based design concepts in practice. It teaches fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design, such as concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. This book helps students and practitioners understand that there is a rigorous way to analyze engineering decisions taking into consideration all the potential technical and business impacts of their decisions. It can be used in its entirety to teach a course in decision based design, while selected chapters can also be used to cover courses in subdisciplines that make up decision based design.
