Jacob Bertschinger was born 29 April 1716 near Zumikon, Switzerland. He emigrated in 1735 and settled in Pennsylvania. He married Magdalena Bechtler (1708-1774), daughter of Georg Bechtler and Elizabeth, 5 April 1736. They had four children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania.

The Landis family of Landis Valley was ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. The Landis family settled in Lancaster County in the 18th century, where Henry Harrison Landis and his wife, Emma Caroline Landis, raised their children, Henry Kinzer, George Diller, and Nettie Mae, in a cross-cultural environment.
