It may be thought that the essays on Sir Samuel Ferguson and Celtic Poetry, Lady Nairne, and William Thom do not come Within the strict limits of folk song and popular poetry, but they have a cognate interest as illustrating the development of folk song in cultivated literature, and seem to me to be within a reasonable approximation to the title of the volume.
