Examine a rich history of spiritual interpretations from antiquity to the present Since the sixteenth century CE, the field of biblical studies has focused on the literal meaning of texts. This collection seeks to rectify this oversight by integrating the study of esoteric readings into academic discourse. Case studies focusing on the first three chapters of Genesis cover different periods and methods from early Christian discourse through zoharic, kabbalistic and alchemical literature to modern and post-postmodern approaches. Features: Discussions, comparisons, and analyses of esoteric appropriations of Genesis 1–3 Essays on creation myths, gender, fate and free will, the concepts of knowledge, wisdom, and gnosis Repsonses to papers that provide a range of view points

This book is written with the sincere conviction that it will convey a message other than the one we have been led to accept about Biblical and other ancient texts. It may change your experience in the way you view life and the concept of God and religion, as well as your relationship with those beliefs. This book is about ancient principles contained in the Bible and many other documents inscribed long ago, such as the Nag Hammadi Library and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Words paint mental pictures that enfold in our minds, and we call this "getting answers." At times, we take these images as the only truth there is, since we can see or imagine it. We base this personally conceived truth on what we learn in life. Should we not ask ourselves: what if all this is based on falsehoods? These mental illustrations - that we call "thoughts" - are founded solely on what we have seen or read. Most of the time, we compare them, and in this fashion, we develop personal beliefs according to our choices. This practice is not specifically reserved for the individual. It spreads throughout our society, when each and every human experiences the same event or feeling, or reads a similar book. As a result, the collective mindset - sometimes called the "over mind" - now generates large-scale belief systems that, in time, we have termed as "religion." Entire nations have been known to bond in the same creed. Even when founded with the best of intentions, these systems tend to bind us as a group, with one mindset going in one direction, while offering no other alternatives. In some respects, this direction may not necessarily be the best or ideal goal toward which we can journey. It does limit us in the centuries-old matter pertaining to God or the God Head, and it affects our individual experience. It also influences what we know about the ancient teachers and prophets of long ago.

This survey textbook is grounded in the view that the prophetic books of the Old Testament should be read as Christian Scripture. Although it covers critical issues such as authorship, background, and history, its primary focus is on the message and theology of the prophetic books and the contribution they make to the Christian canon. Particular attention is given to literary issues, such as the structure of each prophetic book. Full-color illustrations, diagrams, and artwork bring the text to life. Additional resources for instructors and students are available through Textbook eSources.

Unlock the esoteric origins of Kabbalah to discover hidden symbolic messages in the Bible and key occult texts The art of Gematria goes far deeper than the way in which people have come to understand it today. Originating in Biblical texts, Gematria is less about the cherry-picking and comparison of numbers, but a far more beautiful and ancient art, that is crucial for biblical interpretation and occult symbolism. In this revised and expanded version of the classic book, Bethsheba Ashe tackles questions which have been asked for as a long as the Bible has existed - why Adam and Eve had to leave the Garden of Eden; how Moses parted the Red Sea; whether Elijah riding the fiery chariot to heaven as real - which can all be answered all through the art of gematria, in the most advanced and thorough study of the subject ever published to date. The ciphers in the book are utilized by the Shematria Gematria Calculator, created by the author herself to assist readers as she guides you through the ancient Hebrew system. Behold can be read as both a student handbook, a history and an invaluable reference text; within its pages you will find everything needed to detect and read hidden gematria calculations. The new and expanded edition has been revised and reorganised and includes new material on the true meaning of the recently discovered Mount Ebal Curse tablet
