Pesticide Chemistry: Human Welfare and the Environment, Volume 3: Mode of Action, Metabolism and Toxicology covers the proceeding of the Fifth International Congress of Pesticide Chemistry. This book is organized into three parts that tackle relevant issues regarding the use of pesticide. The opening part tackles topics relevant to the biochemistry of pests and mode of action of pesticides, such as influence of chlorinated and parathyroid insecticide on cellular calcium regulatory mechanisms; behavioral and lethal actions of amidines on invertebrates; and insect chitin synthetase as biochemical probe for insecticidal compounds. The second part encompasses metabolism and degradation of pesticides and xenobiotics and includes topics on propesticides; selective toxicity conferred by activation; and comparative biochemistry of animal, plant, and microorganism oxidases. The last part covers the toxicology of pesticides and xenobiotics, including the role of biochemical studies in modern toxicological assessment of pesticides; neurophysiological and behavioral assessment of pesticide toxicity; and genetic toxicology applied to the assessment of mutagenic, carcinogenic, and teratogenic action of pesticides and related compounds. This book will be of great interest to chemists, biologists, botanists, and entomologists or professionals whose line of work involves the use of pesticides and who are concerned with pesticide side-effects to the users and the environment.

Environmental Chemicals Desk Reference is a concise version of the widely read Agrochemicals Desk Reference and Groundwater Chemicals Desk Reference. This up-to-date volume was inspired by the need for a combination of the material in both references, together with the large number of research publications and the continued interest in the fate, transport, and remediation of hazardous substances. Much new data has been added to this unique edition, including global legislation (REACH) and sustainability, thereby reflecting the wealth of literature in the field. Featured are environmental and physical/chemical data on more than 200 compounds, including pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.

S-ethyl dipropylthiocarbamate (EPTC) is a thiocarbamate herbicide (resistance management group 8) that inhibits lipid synthesis (not acetyl CoA carboxylase inhibition). It works by systemic action. EPTC is registered for the control of a variety of annual grasses, broadleaf weeds and selected perennial weeds in terrestrial feed, food and oilseed crops and as a domestic class product for use in ornamentals in a residential setting. Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is proposing that the use of EPTC and its end-use products is acceptable for continued registration with the implementation of additional mitigation measures to further protect workers, residents and the environment. This document summarizes the health and environmental risk assessments as well as the proposed mitigation measures resulting from the re-evaluation of EPTC. By way of this document, the PMRA is soliciting comments from interested parties on the proposed regulatory decision for EPTC.--Document.

An easily accessible guide to scientific information on safety management of chemical substances for students and occupational health professionals, this book covers proper management, related care, and precautions, and related global regulations. It aids in preventing and minimizing the consequences of catastrophic releases of toxic, reactive, flammable, or explosive chemical substances, which may result in toxic or explosive hazards. It also details safety measures for transportation of chemical substances by different routes, such as by road, rail, air, and sea.

Volume 2 deals with the mechanisms of herbicide action and of resistance and tolerance to herbicides. The first five chapters of this volume cover the effects of herbicides and adjuvants on the physiology of plants. Professor Black‘s chapter begins by covering the effects of herbicides on photosynthesis, including photosynthetic assimilation of nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus. This is followed by Dr. Morelands chapter on herbicide interactions with plant respiration. The third chapter by Professor Bartels deals with the effects of herbicides on chloroplast and cellular development with emphasis on correlating physiological information with ultrasound effects.

In this annotated bibliography, an attempt has been made to summarise the international research experience up to date covering various aspects of environmental degradation, by pesticides and organic chemicals and its control. Broadly, it enlists adsorption-desorption behaviour of soils; microbial activity, degradation and bio-remedition; soil, water and atmospheric pollution; agricultural activity; crop rotation; climate run off and water pollution; disease, pest control and plant protection measures.

People working in development of drugs, pesticides, washing detergents, etc., are obliged by law to conduct analyses of the "metabolic pathways" or "maps" for the chemical compounds that they are using or proposing. Everyone in these industries or carrying out research toward such products is therefore interested in having a reference on these compounds. Covers literature relating to degradation and metabolic profiles of molecules Draws together the literature on degradation and metabolism patterns with that on diversified conditions of the environmental systems Indicates 3D chemical structures, predicted physico-chemical parameters, logP and the SMILES chemical notations of the parent compounds to assist scientists design the lead compounds for new discovery using computer-aided technology
