Advances in nanoscale materials processing are taking place at a rapid pace via myriad paths, including lithography, production of nanoparticle assemblies, surface manipulation and many others. Several of the techniques create structures that are three-dimensional or quasi three-dimensional. Even smaller structures intended to be two-dimensional have a 'more' three-dimensional geometry as their two-dimensional feature size and layer thickness become similar. The properties of these denser assemblies are driving different applications in electronics (single-electron devices), optics (photonic crystals and switches) and elsewhere. This 2003 book provides a venue for a productive scientific and technical exchange. The result is a compilation of papers which address fundamental studies, technological advances and novel approaches to developing and processing three-dimensional nanoscale assemblies. Topics include: nanofabrication via lithographic techniques; unconventional fabrication methods of nano-structures; physics, chemistry and modeling of nanostructures; fabrication and properties of 1D nanostructures; fabrication and properties of 3D nanostructures; applications of nanostructures and devices.

Nanobiosensors: Nanotechnology in the Agri-Food Industry, Volume 8, provides the latest information on the increasing demand for robust, rapid, inexpensive, and safe alternative technologies that monitor, test, and detect harmful or potentially dangerous foods. Due to their high sensitivity and selectivity, nanobiosensors have attracted attention for their use in monitoring not only biological contaminants in food, but also potential chemical and physical hazards. This book offers a broad overview regarding the current progress made in the field of nanosensors, including cutting-edge technological progress and the impact of these devices on the food industry. Special attention is given to the detection of microbial contaminants and harmful metabolotes, such as toxins and hormones, which have a great impact on both humans and animal health and feed. - Includes the most up-to-date information on nanoparticles based biosensors and quantum dots for biological detection - Provides application methods and techniques for research analysis for bacteriological detection and food testing - Presents studies using analytical tools to improve food safety and quality analysis

In this book, the term "electrochemical nanotechnology" is defined as nanoprocessing by means of electrochemical techniques. This introductory book reviews the application of electrochemical nanotechnologies with the aim of understanding their wider applicability in evolving nanoindustries. These advances have impacted microelectronics, sensors, materials science, and corrosion science, generating new fields of research that promote interaction between biology, medicine, and microelectronics. This volume reviews nanotechnology applications in selected high technology areas with particular emphasis on advances in such areas. Chapters are classified under four different headings: Nanotechnology for energy devices - Nanotechnology for magnetic storage devices - Nanotechnology for bio-chip applications - Nanotechnology for MEMS/Packaging.
