Lord Palmerston was born 20 Oct. 1784. He was a scholar and statesman, serving as secretary at war for almost 20 years. In 1830 he became secretary of state for foreign affairs. In 1839 he married Emily Cowper, sister to Lord Melbourne, then Prime Minister to Queen Victoria and in 1855 himself became Prime Minister.
