This book is the most comprehensive and flexible theory of chloride ingress in concrete to date. Based on test results and field observations, the book demonstrates the easy application of this theory to practice. The information is presented in a clear style with each chapter containing an introduction, technical applications and examples, and a final section covering the mathematics behind the theory, to enable the reader to obtain a deeper insight into the subject. Primarily aimed at practising engineers engaged in analysis and design of concrete structures exposed to a chloride laden environment, this book is also a useful reference for mathematicians and engineering students.

How to achieve sustainable agricultural production without compromising environmental quality, agro-ecosystem function and biodiversity is a serious consideration in current agricultural practices. Farming systems’ growing dependency on chemical inputs (fertilizers, pesticides, nutrients etc.) poses serious threats with regard to crop productivity, soil fertility, the nutritional value of farm produce, management of pests and diseases, agro-ecosystem well-being, and health issues for humans and animals. At the same time, microbial inoculants in the form of biofertilizers, plant growth promoters, biopesticides, soil health managers, etc. have gained considerable attention among researchers, agriculturists, farmers and policy makers. The first volume of the book Microbial Inoculants in Sustainable Agricultural Productivity - Research Perspectives highlights the efforts of global experts with regard to various aspects of microbial inoculants. Emphasis is placed on recent advances in microbiological techniques for the isolation, characterization, identification and evaluation of functional properties using biochemical and molecular tools. The taxonomic characterization of agriculturally important microorganisms is documented, along with their applications in field conditions. The book exploresthe identification, characterization and diversity analysis of endophytic microorganisms in various crops including legumes/ non-legumes, as well as the assessment of their beneficial impacts in the context of promotingplant growth. Moreover, it provides essential updates onthe diversity and role of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and arbuscular mycorrhizal mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). Further chaptersexamine in detailbiopesticides, thehigh-density cultivation of bioinoculants in submerged culture, seed biopriming strategies for abiotic and biotic stress tolerance, andPGPR as abio-control agent. Given its content, the book offers a valuable resource for researchers involved in research and development concerningPGPR, biopesticides and microbial inoculants.

The limited aqueous solubility of bioactive pharmaceutical ingredients presents a tremendous challenge in the development of new drugs. In recent years, methods have been developed to protect these sensitive bioactive compounds, namely antioxidants, with the aim of increasing the public sanitation grades. Emulsion-based systems are particularly interesting as colloidal delivery encapsulation systems, because they can easily be created from food-grade ingredients using relatively simple processing protocols. It is one of the most favorable delivery systems to increase the solubility of phytochemicals, nutraceuticals and food additives. Emulsion‐based Encapsulation of Antioxidants: Design and Performance advances the field of colloid science through the investigation of the effects of formulation and process parameters that influence emulsion production. The book offers a deeper comprehension of the technological and biological aspects of the incorporation of encapsulated compounds in food matrices and explication of their activity. Chapters provide an overview of the status of emulsion-based formulations to encapsulate antioxidants, fabrication, properties, applications, and biological fate with emphasis on systems suitable for utilization within industry. Special emphasis is placed on the antioxidant activity of the carriers being the key advantage of these emulsion-based systems. The main aim of the book is to inspire and to guide fellow scientists and students in this field. Filled with illustrations, figures, case studies, practical examples, and historical perspectives, the book can also be used as a practical handbook or graduate textbook. For industry professionals, the book presents easy-to-achieve approaches to industrial pharmaceutical production.

It is not good to have zeal without knowledge • . . . Book of Proverbs This volume constitutes the proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Materials Processing at High Gravity. It offers the latest results in a new field with immense potential for commercialization, making this book a vital resource for research and development professionals in industry, academia and government. We have titled the proceedings Centrifugal Materials Processing to emphasize that centrifugation causes more than an increase in acceleration. It also introduces the Coriolis force and a gradient of acceleration, both of which have been discovered to play important roles in materials processing. The workshop was held June 2-8, 1996 on the campus of Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, under the sponsorship of Corning Corporation and the International Center for Gravity Materials Science and Applications. The meeting was very productive and exciting, with energetic discussions of the latest discoveries in centrifugal materials processing, continuing the atmosphere of the first workshop held in 1991 at Dubna (Russia) and the second workshop held in 1993 in Potsdam, New York. Results and research plans were presented for a wide variety of centrifugal materials processing, including directional solidification of semiconductors, crystallization of high Tc superconductors, growth of diamond thin films, welding, alloy casting, solution behavior and growth, protein crystal growth, polymerization, and flow behavior. Also described were several centrifuge facilities that have been constructed for research, with costs beginning at below $1000.
