Destined to become “the new poker classic, a must-read” (Mike Sexton, top poker player and promoter), Ghosts at the Table is the game's first definitive history. With verve and wit, internationally renowned poker personality Des Wilson traces poker's Wild West origins in Deadwood, South Dakota-where “Wild” Bill Hickok was said to have been shot holding aces and eights-to the annual World Series of Poker and amazing high-stakes games of modern-day Las Vegas. It's a story full of unforgettable characters-riverboat gamblers, Texas rounders, roadside hucksters, and living legends-who have helped make poker the world's most popular game.

This family cookbook morphed into much more for me during the writing process. It began by contacting friends and family to collect recipes for what I thought would be a simple process. During those conversations and with my own memories, a flood of personal history evolved in my mind. What began as a repository of food recipes became much more to me, and I decided to collect the process in the form of this book, The Diary of a Mad Chef, to also include photos of those people and selected short stories. Food has always been the center of our family's common narrative thread, and I attempted to place the face and the stories of my friends and family with the recipes as I remember them. Along with the feedback and photos from my friends and family, it became a two-year-long effort to compile, edit, and publish this book. The journey has been a magnificent experience for me, and I am grateful to have had the time and opportunity to write this book.

This is not like other poker books. It is not a how-to book. This book provides a unique system for improving one's poker game through more focused awareness of play, strategy and opponents. "The Original Poker Diary" comprises hundreds of journal pages for players to write on in order to keep track of "Memorable Hands," "Player Notes," "Bad Beats," "Tells," and more. Instructions for use, along with a sample diary entry, are described in the first few pages, followed by over 300 journal entry pages divided into two sections; tournament play and online/live casino play. This one-of-a-kind book concludes with a comprehensive glossary of poker terminology and slang. "The Original Poker Diary," if used consistently, will become an indespensable handbook to help you devise your own strategy for learning from the game...and winning.

A world-class player, he is one of the most feared players on the ever-burgeoning global poker circuit. The Devilfish is a working-class man from Hull who was a petty criminal at 16, a safe-breaker who spent his 21st birthday in prison, and then a pawnbroker in Hull who’s turned his gambling hobby into a hugely lucrative career. Graciela "Ace" Jones is mad-mad at her best friend Lilly who cancels their annual trip to Panama City for mysterious reasons; at her boss Catherine for "riding her ass like a fat lady on a Rascal scooter;" at her friend Chloe's abusive husband; and especially at Mason McKenzie, the love of her life, who has shown up with a marriage proposal one year too late. Ace is never mad, though, at her near-constant companion, an adorable chiweenie dog named Buster Loo. Ace's anger begins to dissipate as she takes matters into her own hands to take down Chloe's philandering husband-and to get to the bottom of a multitude of other scandals plaguing Bugtussle, Mississippi. Then, she starts to realize that maybe Mason deserves a second chance after all. With a sharp and distinctive voice, Stephanie McAfee delivers a hilarious and fast-paced tale about Ace Jones and her two best friends-thick as thieves and tough as nails-navigating Southern small-town politics and prejudices, finding love, and standing up for each other all the way.
