This paper describes a methodology to produce a composite heat release rate curve for multiple burning items using the WPI/FIRE CODE fire model. The growing fire algorithm is manipulated by changing the six fire parameters: fire spread parameter, initial burning radius, maximum burning radius, burnout parameter, heat of vaporization and fraction of heat released. This methodology accounts for the radiative enhancement of the heat release rate curves which will substantially modify the burning characteristics of multiple objects burning in close proximity to one another. The result of the simulation process is a table of values which will reproduce the actual heat release rate and mass loss rate curves generated in the furniture calorimeter.

This book is the first to deal with the important topic of the fire behaviour of fibre reinforced polymer composite materials. The book covers all of the key issues on the behaviour of composites in a fire. Also covered are fire protection materials for composites, fire properties of nanocomposites, fire safety regulations and standards, fire test methods, and health hazards from burning composites.

Marine Composites: Design and Performance presents up-to-date information and recent research findings on the application and use of advanced fibre-reinforced composites in the marine environment. Following the success of their previously published title: Marine Applications of Advanced Fibre-reinforced Composites which was published in 2015; this exemplary new book provides comprehensive information on materials selection, characterization, and performance. There are also dedicated sections on sandwich structures, manufacture, advanced concepts, naval architecture and design considerations, and various applications. The book will be an essential reference resource for designers, materials engineers, manufactures, marine scientists, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, coastal engineers, boat manufacturers, offshore platform and marine renewable design engineers. Presents a unique, high-level reference on composite materials and their application and use in marine structures Provides comprehensive coverage on all aspects of marine composites, including the latest advances in damage modelling and assessment of performance Contains contributions from leading experts in the field, from both industry and academia Covers a broad range of naval, offshore and marine structures

Presents the types of analyses that can be used to examine large-scale room fire test data to prepare the data for comparison with zone-based fire models. The base of experimental data ranges in complexity from one room tests with individual furniture items to a series of tests conducted in a multiple story hotel equipped with a zoned smoke control system. Graphs and diagrams.

A simple model, based on the analysis of the experimentally observed burning behaviour of furniture has been developed. The model divides the furniture into several components. It is assumed that the heat release rate of each combustible component of a piece of furniture will follow a simple heat release rate v. time curve which can be defined by three parameters, time to linear burning, time to peak heat release rate and peak heat release rate. In the present work these parameters were determined from both experimental and cone calorimeter data. Summation of the heat release rate v. time curves for each component provides good predictions for the burning behaviour of the complete furniture item. This model supplies a simple method to predict the various types of heat release rate histories observed for furniture from simple smouldering to complex burning.
