The final year of the Nechako NATMAP project to study the geology of central British Columbia was used to research information collected in the field & laboratory, and to compile & document the study results. This article includes a review of upcoming publications & other products, by type of product: maps, journal articles, conference presentations, and computer products, as well as ongoing research on petrology, palaeontology, terrane characterization, tectonics & structure, and Quaternary geology.

The Slave Province is a relatively small but well-exposed Archean craton in the north-west part of the Canadian Shield. Mapping of quartzite & banded iron formation occurrences throughout the Province since the 1970s has resulted in the conclusion that the overall topology of all greenstone belts in the central & western parts of the Province permits all such occurrences to be correlated into a single cover sequence, the Central Slave Cover Group. Following a brief historical overview, this paper presents field evidence for the discovery & successful correlation of that cover sequence across much of the craton. It then presents detrital zircon data to bolster this correlation, in particular to show that what was earlier mapped as a Paleoproterozoic cover sequence in central Wopmay Orogen is in fact part of the Central Slave Cover Group. The extension of the Cover Group into the north-western Slave Province have implications for the architecture & evolution of continental crust older than 2.85 billion years.

This paper presents results from uranium-lead dating of plutonic, volcanic, & sedimentary rocks from the Southern Indian Lake to Granville Lake area of northern Manitoba. The samples analyzed were collected from a range of tectonostratigraphic settings and provide constraints on the age of volcanism & sedimentation in the Rusty Lake Belt, on the deposition of fluvial to littoral facies sediments in the Partridge Breast Belt, and on the emplacement of orthogneiss and plutonic rocks.

This study examines aspects of the geological evolution of the Sharbot Lake domain and compares it with that of neighbouring domains & terranes in the Central metasedimentary belt, Grenville Province, Ontario. The study reports uranium-lead zircon & titanite geochronological ages for a granodiorite phase of the Pakenham intrusion from the northern part of the Sharbot Lake domain. The new data expand the known range of magmatism in this part of the belt, elucidate the early tectonic evolution of the domain, and constrain the timing of overprinting metamorphism. Possible links between the Pakenham structure and the Wolf Grove structure to the south-east are also discussed.
