Excerpt from Crops and Markets, Vol. 2: October 4, 1924 Fresh-meat trade was Very draggy, the average quality of offerings being none too good. Supplies of lamb were excessive with fresh pork offerings very limited. The trend of prices was downward except on pork, advances of 31 - 354 on that commodity being rather common. Butter markets were weak and unsettled during the week, September 22 - 27. Sentiment appeared to favor lower prices in the belief that cheaper butter would greatly improve con sumption. Production conditions were good and continued to be a bearish factor. Storage holdings showed a slight decrease but not sufficient to improve the situation materially.
