The relationship between ownership structure and firm performance has been studied extensively in corporate finance and corporate governance literature. Nevertheless, the mediation (path) analysis to examine the issue can be adopted as a new approach to explain why and how ownership structure is related to firm performance and vice versa. The Nordic Region is remarkable in many ways and has been the subject of increasing interest over the past years. The alleged risk of such a system - the potential that a shareholder majority misuses its power for its own benefit at the expense of minority shareholders - is effectively curbed through a well-developed system of minority protection.
