The Canon publishes this narrative in his appendix to the life of that noble man1 as a literary curiosity, without admitting that it affects in any way the fidelity Of the Earl to the faith he had heretofore held. He lays great stress on its want of publication, at, or near the period in question, and on the inherent improbability of such an event happening at such a time and place, in opposition to all the Earl's antecedent convictions.
