This textbook provides in-depth coverage of the fundamentals of the C and C++ programming languages and the object-oriented programming paradigm. It follows an example-driven approach to facilitate understanding of theoretical concepts. Essential concepts, including functions, arrays, pointers and inheritance, are explained, while complex topics, such as dynamic memory allocation, object slicing, vtables, and upcasting and downcasting, are examined in detail. Concepts are explained with the help of line diagrams, student-teacher conversations and flow charts, while other useful features, such as quiz questions and points to remember, are included. Solved examples, review questions and useful case studies are interspersed throughout the text, and explanations of the logic used to implement particular functionality is also provided. This book will be useful for undergraduate students of computer science and engineering, and information technology.

This book presents 17 selected papers from the 4th International Graphonomics Society Conference, held at the University of Trondheim (Norway) in July 1989. It focusses on different aspects of automatic processing of handwriting by computer. The book is divided into three sections. The first one surveys the research works done on automatic signature verification over the last 25 years. The second section deals with problems related to the design of on-line cursive script recognition and the implementation of this technology into an electronic pen pad. The third section focusses on the integration of contextual knowledge in these systems.

If you can never find a pen but always have an electronic device, Electronic Shorthand might be for you! If you need to take notes for study, business, hobbies, or memory problems, Electronic Shorthand could be the answer to your problems. It's a quick and easy-to-learn method of taking notes on an electronic device - a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Unlike traditional shorthand, it doesn't involve learning a whole new language, it's similar to 'texting' but with a few simple rules. It will enable you to take extensive notes, quickly and easily, and have them available anywhere in the cloud - without having to transcribe them or type them up afterwards. This is ideal for students and anyone who studies online or off. It's also great for reporters - you don't need to invest years into learning Pitman or Gregg or Teeline, and you won't need to worry about storing your notebooks or bits of paper. Business people love this method for taking down client briefs, networking/conference notes, and for organizing their lives. Electronic Shorthand could save you hassle, stress, and confusion.

Annual Review in Automatic Programming is a collection of papers presented at the Working Conference on Automatic Programming of Digital Computers held in Brighton, UK, on April 1-3, 1959. Contributors focus on developments in automatic programming and cover topics ranging from automatic coding for TREAC to the PEGASUS and MERCURY autocodes, automatic programming of DEUCE, and the philosophy of programming. Business applications of automatic programming are also discussed. This book is comprised of 17 chapters and begins with a review of future trends in automatic programming, focusing on the environment of a computer as well as machine languages and automatic codes. The features of existing automatic programming languages are also described, along with the advantages and disadvantages of such languages. The next chapter presents some of the arguments in favor of standardized notations for programming, mainly with reference to scientific problems. The reader is also introduced to the Mark 5 system of automatic coding for TREAC; assembly, interpretive, and conversion programs for PEGASUS; and application of formula translation to the automatic coding of ordinary differential equations. The final chapter describes a machine designed for the manufacture of accurate models for wind tunnel tests. This monograph will be of interest to computer programmers, computer manufacturers, computer users, and university students.

This book grew out of the Fourth Conference on Computers and the Writing Process, held at the University of Sussex in March 1991. The conference brought together a wide variety of people interested in most aspects of computers and the writing process including, computers and writing education, computer supported fiction, computers and technical writing, evaluation of computer-based writing, and hypertext. Fifteen papers were selected from the twenty-five delivered at the conference. The authors were asked to develop them into articles, incorporating any insights they had gained from their conference presentations. This book offers a survey of the wide area of Computers and Writing, and describes current work in the design and use of computer-based tools for writing. University of Sussex M.S.
