The prophet Brigham Young taught the restored gospel of Jesus Christ in a basic, practical way that gave inspiration and hope to the Saints struggling to build a home in the wilderness. Though more than a century has now passed, his words are still fresh and appropriate for us today as we continue the work of building the kingdom of God. President Young declared that as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we possess the “doctrine of life and salvation for all the honest-in-heart” (DBY, 7). He promised that those who receive the gospel in their hearts will have awakened “within them a desire to know and understand the things of God more than they ever did before in their lives” and will begin to “inquire, read and search and when they go to their Father in the name of Jesus he will not leave them without a witness” (DBY, 450). This book reflects the desire of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to deepen the doctrinal understanding of Church members and to awaken within them a greater desire to know the things of God. It will inspire and motivate individuals, priesthood quorums, and Relief Society classes to inquire, read, search, and then go to their Father in Heaven for a witness of the truth of these teachings. Each chapter contains two sections—“Teachings of Brigham Young” and “Suggestions for Study.” The first section consists of extracts from Brigham Young’s sermons to the early Saints. Each statement has been referenced, and the original spelling and punctuation have been preserved; however, the sources cited will not be readily available to most members. These original sources are not necessary to have in order to effectively study or teach from this book. Members need not purchase additional references and commentaries to study or teach these chapters. The text provided in this book, accompanied by the scriptures, is sufficient for instruction. Members should prayerfully read and study President Young’s teachings in order to gain new insights into gospel principles and discover how those principles apply to their everyday lives. By faithfully and prayerfully studying these selections, Latter-day Saints will have a greater understanding of gospel principles and will more fully appreciate the profound and inspired teachings of this great prophet. The second section of each chapter offers a series of questions that will encourage thoughtful contemplation, personal application, and discussion of President Young’s teachings. Members should refer to and carefully reread his words on the principle being discussed. Deep and prayerful study of these teachings will inspire members to greater personal commitment and will help them resolve to follow the teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ. If individuals and families prayerfully follow the principles in this book, they will be blessed and inspired to greater dedication and spirituality, as were the early Saints who heard these words directly from the lips of the “Lion of the Lord” (HC, 7:434)—the prophet, seer, and revelator, President Brigham Young.

Specifically, it is about ôthe present evil ageö that we live in right now. For many Christians, the expression ôthese last daysö refers to the time right before the second coming of Christ-but according to the apostles, the last days started with the first coming of Christ and continue even today.

Anyone wrestling with Jesus' understanding of the last days must begin by braving the tempest of controversy surrounding the interpretation of Mark 13" a passage on which it seems virtually every NT scholar of the last century has felt compelled to comment. From Strauss to Schniewind, Perrin to Drewermann, rabbit trails to roadways, Beasley-Murray charts the complex and sometimes confusing paths of interpretation. Obviously, any interpreter wishing to begin at ground-zero must take seriously the forces that have shaped the modern understanding of Jesus' words concerning the End. This study culminates nearly 40 years of research, for Beasley-Murray's passion for Mark 13 began in 1954 with the release of "Jesus and the Future; " the present volume is a completely revised and expanded edition of the former work, whose longevity as a centerpiece in discussions on Mark 13 warranted its revision and expansion. "George Beasley-Murray's "Jesus and the Future "(1954) and "A Commentary on Mark 13" (1957) are among the very few biblical studies from the 1950s that have stood the test of time. The former is still a model of how the history of biblical research should be written. . . . Now after almost forty years (!) he has integrated the two works into one and updated his history of the interpretation of Mark 13 into the 1990s. For those of us who have a sense of how much has happened in biblical studies since 1954, this is a tremendous achievement. No substantial passage of the New Testament has ever been better served in a single volume. The work's new title, "Jesus and the Last Days," signals the fact that it is in most respects a new work, one that will for many years be an indispensabletool for anyone working either on the Gospel of Mark, the eschatology of Jesus, or the eschatology of the New Testament. The academic community's debt to George Beasley-Murray is incalculable" and mounting." " J. Ramsay Michaels, Professor of Religious Studies, Southwest Missouri State University

This is the first of a series of monograph supplements to the journal New Testament Studies. The main purpose of the series is to make possible publication of work which is too long for inclusion in the journal. The monographs will be published in either English, French or German: the present one is in English. Dr Gärtner's purpose is to follow in detail the parallels between the New Testament and Qumran writings in their concpet of the community - Christian or Essene - as a spiritual temple. The whole complex of relationships between Qumran and the early Church is studied with the purpose of extending our knowledge of the Jewish background of the New Testament. Dr Gärtner's conclusions lend strong support to the view that it is from this Qumran type of Judaism that the Christian Church arose.

"The Biblical Last Days" are considered by many to be the last days of the physical earth and the second coming of Jesus Christ. The many who believes that theory only believes it because they heard someone say and present that notion. That is a case of scriptural ignorance. It usually comes from the pastor or Sunday school teacher. Nowhere in the scriptures does it teaches the physical earth will end nor does it teaches the physical bodily return of Jesus Christ anytime after the first century. If people would only read and study the Scriptures for themselves and let the written time statements of the book mean what they say; we all would learn --- We Are Not Living in the Biblical Last Days. Stop the Erroneous Teaching. This book is not written for scholarly accolades. However; it is written with a simple flair to give insight to the least learned individual. To get its full adaptation one must drop the preconceived faulty teachings from early Sunday school lessons, bible classes and parental traditions concerning the "Last Days" the Bible speaks of.
