John A. Chapman (1780/1790-ca.1842) apparently moved from Shelby County to Coosa County, Alabama between 1830 and 1840. There were four surviving sons: Simeon, Griffith, John and Anderson. Simeon pro- bably inherited his father's property because he stayed in Alabama. Griffith moved to Texas, and later to Chattanooga, Tennessee. This book traces the genealogy of the other two sons, John and Anderson. John Chapman (ca.1798-1860/1870) was born in Tennessee, moved to Alabama (with his parents), and then via Louisiana to Denton County and then Hill County, Texas. Anderson Chapman (1811-1867) was born in Tennesse and moved to Alabama with his parents. In October 1850 he moved to Union Parish, Louisiana, and later moved up to the Red River county, and then to Cooke County, Texas and by 1859 to Denton County, Texas. Descendants and relatives also lived in Arkansas, Georgia, California and elsewhere.
