Excerpt from Week-Day Religious Education, 1922: A Survey and Discussion of Activities and Problems This book contains a survey and a series of studies of a special type of activity in religious education. It treats of week-day religious education and, in doing so, it is purposely confined to the special types which have had a notable development and extension in the past few years. No one should be blind, however, to the fact that week-day religious instruction is by no means a modern innovation, nor should they lose sight of the fact that, in recent times, we have had other noteworthy adventures in this field beside those described in this book. Excerpt from The Week Day Church School: A Historical Sketch, Brief Analysis, and Attempted Evaluation of the Organized Efforts to Furnish Week Day Religious Instruction to Pupils of Elementary and High School Age in the United States This book is prepared in the hope that it may help to meet the rapidly growing demand for information concerning week-day religious instruction. It was im possible to' give adequate information in the author's pam phlet on the Gary Church School Plan. Even the enlarged second edition Of that leaflet, because of the limitations as to space, had to leave some important matters untouched. A fuller treatment of these subjects has been possible in the present volume. More' than thirty different communities have under taken the organization of classes for week-day religious instruction during the past five months. A still larger number Of communities are planning to begin this type of work before the end of the present school year. If the movement continues to grow in the geometrical ratio which has characterized its growth for the past two or three years, it will soon assume proportions overshadowing every other educational agency of the Church.
