Excerpt from Catalogue of the Officers and Students of Maryville College, East Tennessee: For the Academic Year 1873-'74 On these grounds have recently been erected three new buildings at a cost of fifty thousand dollars. The location is as remarkable for its healthfulness as it is for its beauty. The Central Building is adapted to and used exclusively for College purposes, and in honor of the Founder of the Institution is called anderson hall. The North Dormitory, in honor of the late John C. Baldwin, of New Jersey. Is called baldwin hall, and is occupied by the young ladies. In this Hall ample and pleasant accommodations for board are provided for all the members of the Institution who may choose to board there. The South Dormitory, called memorial hall, is occupied by the young men. In the basement of Baldwin Hall are five, and in that of Memorial Hall are ten kitchens for the benefit of Students who may prefer to board themselves.
