The Number One bestselling memoir from Ireland's former state pathologist In 1997, Dr Marie Cassidy arrived in Dublin from Glasgow. There to discuss a possible deputy state pathologist post with Professor John Harbison, instead she was whisked by police escort to a Grangegorman murder scene. There was no turning back. She became Ireland's State Pathologist from 2004 until 2018, her image synonymous with breaking news of high-profile cases - a trusted figure in turbulent times. Here, with the scalpel-like precision and calm authority of her trade, Marie shares her remarkable personal journey from working-class Scotland into the world of forensic pathology, describing in candid detail the intricate processes central to solving modern crime. She recounts her work following the tragic deaths of Rachel O'Reilly, Siobhan Kearney, Robert Holohan, Tom O'Gorman and others - along with the Stardust exhumations and lesser known cases from her long career - outlining the subtle methods by which pathology and the justice system meet. Beyond the Tape is a unique behind-the-scenes journey into the mysteries of unexplained and sudden death - by turns poignant, stark and deeply compelling.

Since 1980, The Tape-Recorded Interview has been an essential resource for folklorists and oral historians--indeed, for anyone who uses a tape recorder in field research. Now, Sandy Ives has updated this manual to reflect the current preferences in tape-recording technology and equipment. When this book was first published, the reel-to-reel recorder was the favored format for fieldwork. Because the cassette recorder has almost completely replaced it, Ives has revised the first chapter, "How a Tape Recorder Works," accordingly and has included a useful discussion of the differences between analog and digital recording. He has also added a brief section on video, updated the bibliography, and reworked his original comments on tape cataloging and transcription. As in the first edition, Ives's emphasis is on documenting the lives of common men and women. He offers a careful, step-by-step tour through the collection process--finding informants, making advance preparations, conducting the actual interview, obtaining a release--and then describes the procedures for processing the taped interview and archiving such materials for future use. He also gives special treatment to such topics as recording music, handling group interviews, and using photographs or other visual material during interviews.

Curtis Mozie, known on the streets as C-Webb is without a doubt a leader in Washington DC. He spends every waking moment trying to prevent gangs and gun violence on the streets of DC. With the creation of Tale of the Tape Foundation, Curtis produces films that document the lives and death of 65 of his friends murdered by gun violence. He has been a catalyst for positive change for over twenty years, earning the trust of both police officers and gang members having been a police officer himself, its incredible that gangs have allowed him to intimately explore their violent and brutal world. His video camera captures their day-to-day lives playing basketball and also their candidness in interviews at his apartment, which is known as the Safe House, a place where at risk youth come to be mentored on life skills, and to have someone hear their problems and concerns. When one of them gets killed or injured in gang violence, Curtis is there to mourn the lost with family members. He then creates a montage of their lives and deaths in a video tribute-lessons learned. Curtis without a doubt is a unique individual a community hero for DC Mothers, and Fathers. Hes appeared on numerous news media outlets across the world. His message is an unfaltering dedication and commitment to making the streets of DC safer for everyone. He now works at the Kennedy Recreation Center for the Department of Parks & Recreation working with youth and serving the community.
