He disagrees with my lifestyle, but I've earned the way I live, and I'm not about to change. Unless, of course, it tears apart our already tenuous relationship. The Son: My father might have started our company, but I'm the one who made it what it is—a billion-dollar corporation. It required time and my smarts, but I know how to work hard. My father? Not so much. My father is casual and free-wheeling, with a penchant for dating younger women. He frustrates me to no end because he doesn't take life seriously enough. This standard lexicon of Syriac has long been the choice of students of Syriac, both for its comprehensiveness and also because of its handy size. It originated as an abridgement of Payne Smith's Thesaurus Syriacus, a substantically larger work that also tends to be less accessible for the student. Here the meanings of the Syriac words are given in English, and the order of the Syriac is alphabetical, to avoid requiring the student to know the root of the word being looked up. An essential tool for anyone studying or researching Syriac texts or literature and for students of the Semitic languages. The Compendious Syriac Dictionary was first published by Oxford University Press in 1903 and has been out of print for a number of years. A quality Eisenbrauns reprint based on the 1976 printing.

Many tales are told of the Syldoon Empire and its fearsome soldiers, who are known throughout the world for their treachery and atrocities. Some say that the Syldoon eat virgins and babies–or perhaps their own mothers. Arkamondos, a bookish young scribe, suspects that the Syldoon’s dire reputation may have grown in the retelling, but he’s about to find out for himself. Hired to chronicle the exploits of a band of rugged Syldoon warriors, Arki finds himself both frightened and fascinated by the men’s enigmatic leader, Captain Braylar Killcoin. A secretive, mercurial figure haunted by the memories of those he’s killed with his deadly flail, Braylar has already disposed of at least one impertinent scribe . . . and Arki might be next. Archiving the mundane doings of millers and merchants was tedious, but at least it was safe. As Arki heads off on a mysterious mission into parts unknown, in the company of the coarse, bloody-minded Syldoon, he is promised a chance to finally record an historic adventure well worth the telling, but first he must survive the experience! A gripping military fantasy in the tradition of Glen Cook, Scourge of the Betrayer explores the brutal politics of Empire–and the searing impact of violence and dark magic on a man’s soul.

Guy Stanton was a burly London gangster with a big reputation. For years he operated at the top of the drugs trade, moving huge shipments around the world. He knew the leading players in global organised crime, from wealthy Asian warlords and Turkish heroin barons to British cannabis crews and Colombian cocaine cartels. Yet all along he was living a perilous double life. ‘Stanton’ was the legend – the fake identity – of a covert investigator fronting a bold new concept in deep infiltration. Beta Projects was Britain’s most secret undercover unit. Formed by HM Customs, it trained an elite cadre of officers to adopt false personas and penetrate the international underworld – for as long as it took. Posing as money launderers, yacht skippers, lorry drivers and gangster’s molls, and often just a word away from betrayal and retribution. they lived the life of the villains they pursued, helping to seize tonnes of drugs and illicit contraband. Their clandestine exploits have never been revealed – until now. Stanton’s extraordinary work took him to four continents, all while living on a razor’s edge. He and his colleagues survived gun battles, kidnaps, disasters at sea and false claims of corruption. The job cost him dear, pushing hm to the limits of physical and mental endurance. THE BETRAYER is the authentic account of a ground-breaking assault on the world’s most brutal narcos and of the courage, camaraderie (and humour) of the men and women who took the War on Drugs deep into the heart of the enemy.

In this major reference tool, Jessie Payne Smith has abridged the great two-volume work, 'Thesaurus Syriacus,' by her late father. But her task was not to simply edit down the earlier, massive tomes. She also provided English translations for each entry and additional notations. Her father's dictionary had translated each Syriac word into Latin. The Latin translations made it more internationally accessible; but with the decline of the use of Latin, it decreased in usefulness. Her labors have insured that it continues to benefit scholars and students of Syriac.
