The year is 1980, and the Sandinistas are newly in power in Nicaragua. Bernardo Martínez, a modest, unassuming tailor in the town of Cuapa, witnesses an extraordinary thing: an otherworldly glow appears around the statue of the Virgin Mary in the church, and soon the Holy Virgin appears. Though a work of fiction, Bernardo and the Virgin is based on the real-life experiences of Bernardo Martínez. Silvio Sirias’s sweeping novel tells many stories, weaving together the true account of this humble, devout man with the moving and often humorous fictional tales of the people whom he influenced and inspired. It is also a stormy epic of Nicaragua through the long Somoza years and the Sandinista revolution.

Did Jesus rise physically from the dead, or did he rise as a real, non-bodily apparition, like those reported in the parapsychological literature? In this book, which is the first book-length examination of the question in over fifty years, Jake O'Connell argues in favor of the physical resurrection hypothesis. In order to do so, he employs Bayes' Theorem, a mathematical theorem which encapsulates the way humans think when they analyze the probability of a hypothesis. In addition, he provides a thorough overview of the evidence for the reality of apparitions of the dead.

Apparition begins with the attempted suicide of Simon Cross; a man plagued with the tragedy of losing his wife. Instead of escaping his sorrow, he awakes from a coma four years later only to find himself completely paralyzed. Incapable of moving, or even speaking, he becomes the prisoner of his own body. Still plagued with the loss of his wife, his only occupation in life is imagining her standing at the foot of his bed. Over time, the image of his wife gradually comes to life, sometimes appearing no different than a physical person. At first, he thinks his imagination is simply growing more acute. But this assumption is soon shattered on one fateful night when she, (the image of his late wife), arrives with open arms, inviting him to join her. Separating from his physical body, Simon is finally free from the prison of his mortal shell. From this moment on, Simons perception of reality is turned upside down. His escapades as an apparition traverse the spectrum of emotion. The horror of demonic encounters, the humor of the ultimate pranks, and the wonder of the unknown, all become a part of Simons everyday life. A physicist by trade, Simon quickly begins to study his abilities, testing by trial and error. These tests become an integral part of his new life. He quickly discovers that there are many inherent properties in a spirit body. Universal language translation through ESP, several different modes of travel, an odd relationship with matter, and an immunity to the effects of gravity, weather, and the atmosphere itself, are just a few. (Every test is accompanied with an unpredictable story). Armed with his knowledge of physics and creative imagination, Simons tests eventually lead him to see what the effects of electrical shock produce on his spiritual body. To his delight, he discovers that electricity has a healing property that enables him to regenerate his physical body; specifically, his spinal cord! It isnt long after this that Simons physical body rejuvenates, and Simon once again becomes a participant in the world. Unknown to Simon is the interest hes attracted from individuals in covert government agencies. These individuals introduce themselves to Simon shortly after he re-enters society. Though their motives appear altruistic, their main interest in Simon is getting his help to produce a top-secret military weapon. This weapon, if produced, would enable the person wearing it to kill anyone, anywhere, anytime, completely undetected. Secrets could not be kept from him, plots could not be made against him, and no one would be safe from him. He would be like a demon unleashed on the earth, with all humanity to devour as he pleases. This synopsis, by far, doesnt encapsulate the entirety of Apparition. Simons romance with the nurse he falls in love with while in the hospital, his narrow escapes from the powers of darkness, his personal journey to faith, and his many friendships, are all an integral part of this thought provoking tale. I hope this summary is enough to arouse curiosity, but not enough to dispel the joy of not knowing whats around the next corner. P.S. Medjugorje Complete: The Definitive Account of the Visions and Visionaries looks at the alleged visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Medjugorje, their origins, and their impact on the Catholic Church. It is an expanded, revised, and updated version of two previous works, Understanding Medjugorje and Medjugorje Revisited, published in 2006 and 2011 respectively. Medjugorje Complete focuses on the transcripts of the original tapes of the visionaries made in June 1981. It also looks at the credibility of the visions and the visionaries, demonstrating serious problems in accepting Medjugorje as genuine. It also examines the role of theologians and the Hercegovina Franciscans in promoting Medjugorje, and its tangled historical and religious background, as well as its links with the Charismatic Renewal. In sum, it examines all the relevant evidence about Medjugorje, and concludes that, despite some "good fruits," it does not appear to be genuinely supernatural. If you want to know the truth about Medjugorje, then-forty years after the story began-Medjugorje Complete offers the definitive account.

In the 18th century, the stories of witches, ghosts and vampires were taken for the true records, not for legends. In the documents of those times, the mentions of the dead risen from the tombs were often recorded alongside with the mentions of natural disasters like floods and fires. Yet, even in those times, there were doubts about the reality of such episodes. The society needed a tool to tell a true record of vampirism or witchcraft from the faked one. The Abbot Don Augustin Calmet, also known as a Black Monk, with the approval of the King of France, developed a set of rules for determining the legitimacy of such records. His rules based on the philosophical reasoning and scientific examination. This book is a "How to" manual for dealing with the cases of witchcraft, vampirism, ghost appearance or possession. Additionally, this book gives a deep look in the history of these phenomena. In its time, the work by Calmet was perceived the European society of the Age of Rason as scientific research.

An influential ghost reference book from “a pioneer of paranormal research who developed theories still relevant today” (The Spook Isles). Apparitions delves into G.N.M Tyrrell’s ghost classification method, an interesting and thought-provoking system that is still in use today. Tyrrell’s four categories include experiments, crisis, post-mortem and ghosts. Tyrrell develops the idea that the apparition may be a way for the unconscious part of the mind to bring to consciousness information that has been paranormally acquired—in crisis cases, for example. He introduces an evocative metaphor of a mental ‘stage-carpenter,’ behind the scenes in the unconscious part of the mind, and constructing the quasi-perceptual experience that eventually appears on the stage of consciousness, so that it embodies paranormal information in a symbolic way. Tyrrell first introduced the term out-of-body-experience in this book. Apparitions is part of The Paranormal, a series that resurrects rare titles, classic publications, and out-of-print texts, as well as publishes new supernatural and otherworldly ebooks for the digital age. The series includes a range of paranormal subjects from angels, fairies, and UFOs to near-death experiences, vampires, ghosts, and witchcraft.
