Volume 2 of Sir David S Owens ancestry contains the family groups of the first 25 generations; even though there are more than 125 generations identified and available on Ancestry.com.. Most people can trace their ancestry back to the royal houses of Great Britain and Europe simply because of "survival of the fittest." Only the wealthy could afford the resources necessary to survive the numerous plagues, droughts and natural disasters and wars that plagued the Middle Ages. Although families were often very large, many of the children died young from disease. Even so, genealogy is a life-long pursuit and there is always more to do. It should be noted that most records end about 1500 and before that lineages are based are medieval texts, heraldry records, land probates records, and legend. One of those legends in David's genealogy is that of the Campbell Clan of Scotland being descended from King Arthur. It goes even further back to Roman times.. While this line certainly can't be proven, it's fun to consider the times our ancestors must have lived through. The front cover is a photo of Chillingham Castle in Scotland, the home of Bennett family. It has a long 'haunted' history and is still open today for tours.

David Owen (1759-1822) was born probably in that portion of Halifax County, Va., that in 1767 became Pittsylvania Co. His father was William Owen, Sr. (ca. 1725-1787), born in Virginia, and died in Wilkes County, N.C. David Owen/Owens died in Rockcastle Co., Ky. He was married to Winefred Mullins (1766-1842), daughter of Henry Mullins and Mary Terry, in 1780-81 in Wilkes Co., N.C. They were parents of thirteen children. Family members and descendants live in Kentucky, Missouri and else- where.

Luther Owens (1910-1984) was the second child of James Alderson Owens (b.1889) and Elizabeth Sutherland of Prater, Buchanan Co., Virginia. He married Velva Dare Taylor (b.1912), the daughter of William Jackson Taylor and Emma Curtis Sutherland of Tenso, Dickenson Co., VA. They were the parents of three children: Daniel, Jack and Shirley. Family members are descendants of William Owens of Russell Co., VA, Moses Ramey of Pike Co., KY, Charles Rakes, David Diel/Deel and other early settlers. Several generations of descendants are given.
